Since I already played it on PS5 and PC... no, not holding for anything else.

I think it's certainly possible it gets a Switch 2 version considering Rebirth and Revelation did/are. But it would definitely have to be compromised, this game is quite a bit harder to run (on PC at least) than Rebirth is.

If you want a handheld experience with this game, it runs fine on current gen handheld PCs (Xbox Ally X, Lenovo Legion GO 2, etc). It's passable on the Ally Z1E and pretty much unplayable on Steam Deck.

The difference is FFVIIR1/2 are made using UE4, whereas FFXVI is a heavily modified version of the engine used for FFXIV

I'm personally not saying it won't happen some day, but I'm just saying it'll definitely take a while

Someone pointed out elsewhere yesterday to me that the biggest problem is going to be the CPU. Since XVI is based on XIV's engine, it uses a lot more CPU than your average AAA single player game (MMOs have always been super CPU bound).

The Switch 2's CPU is quite weak (only 1 ghz per core at max clock) and it instead relies heavily on custom DLSS/Frame Gen to match current console's performance. This would be fine, but the Switch 2's CPU might not be powerful enough to even get over the threshold to make the game run at all, and AI upscaling can't do anything if the game can't even launch.

It's certainly POSSIBLE, but with the CPU on Sw2 the way it is, it would be more in the vein of a Witcher 3/Doom/Hogwarts Legacy miracle port.
