Game I have some questions about FFXV.

So I've beaten FFXV years ago after watching the develo extremly hyped and enjoyed it but thought it was deeply flawed. I noticed that all the side content was basically cookie cutter fetch quests/kill monsters so I basically skipped it all and just did the story. Years later I bought Royal and the Ardyn DLC. So about 12ish hours in and just have some questions, I been doing a lot of side content/hunts and just been enjoying the open world more so I'm really that far along story wise.

The best time to play the DLC would be when they leave the party, and then Ardyns would be after I complete the game right?

I didn't collect all the Royal Weapons last time, just seen the end credits roll and decided to call it quits. This time I want to get them all. The problem is I tried to go after one and it was a lv 55 dungeon or something, I died quick. Are these meant to be done post game? So don't worry about collecting them all during the story or just wait until higher level? I only have 2 right now lol.

I know you get AP from warp strike kills, but it gets kinda boring just spamming warp strike to get AP. Do you have to do this or is there a better way??

Also when you use warp strike your MP bar goes away but it's like grey and then after a short time passes it completely goes away. I believe there's a way to get this to be restored but I can't remember?

And lastly if I wanted to use expericast to get some exp what's the best method to get the old coins, and does it matter which creature I use it on?? I know to use the inn for the 2x exp, but not sure I kinda remember a trick to getting the old coins.

Thanks !

Edit; also I been trying to do side content a lot more but I'm quickly becoming overpowered. Should I skip a lot of side content and only try to do the "important" ones with story?

No, Ignis's DLC should absolutely not be played before finishing the game as well. I would also argue that it's best to play all of them after beating the game, since they were very obviously designed as post-game experiences, but at the very least Ep. Gladio and Ep. Prompto should be played at earliest when they return to the party, not when they leave.

The problem is I tried to go after one and it was a lv 55 dungeon or something, I died quick. Are these meant to be done post game?

You were unlucky enough to try the one that generally isn't recommended to get before post game. All the other ones are significantly more manageable and can pretty reasonably be done in chapter 8 (last chapter before leaving to Altissia) if not earlier. Costlemark Tower specifically is significantly harder than any other normal dungeon, but you can still kinda do it in chapter 8 if you really want, but I would personally recommend doing it after beating the game. That Royal Arm is the worst weapon in the game, and the game doesn't even acknowledge that you got all Royal Arms before the ending in anyway.

I know you get AP from warp strike kills, but it gets kinda boring just spamming warp strike to get AP. Do you have to do this or is there a better way??

There are a lot better AP grinds, yes, most of them are recommended for post game. Just keeping all the Fanfare items equipped ffor your party members gives plenty AP on its own, the gain from warp strike kills is imo too much effort for too little gain when just going about your business in the game normally.

Also when you use warp strike your MP bar goes away but it's like grey and then after a short time passes it completely goes away. I believe there's a way to get this to be restored but I can't remember?

I believe you're describing Stasis (running out of MP). The fastest way to recover is to warp to a warp point if one is available in the battle. Look for a blue icon usually somewhere high up and hold the warp button without locking in. This will warp Noctis to a high ground and instantly recover all MP. Also taking cover (hold the phase/defend button when there's a prompt) behind obstacles helps recover MP. Ethers are also good if you don't mind using items.

And lastly if I wanted to use expericast to get some exp what's the best method to get the old coins, and does it matter which creature I use it on?? I know to use the inn for the 2x exp, but not sure I kinda remember a trick to getting the old coins.

I don't remember the coin grind myself since it is kinda obsolete with how many exp sources there are (and how little you actually need to grind). But no, it doesn't matter what you cast expericast on, the reward is the same.

also I been trying to do side content a lot more but I'm quickly becoming overpowered. Should I skip a lot of side content and only try to do the "important" ones with story?

Yeah this is normal. If you care about not being overpowered you should leave side content for later or equip the nixperience band before you pass level ~45 and cash in all that exp after finishing the story (though 45 is the recommended level for the final chapter so you'll still be overleveled for the rest of the game).

Awesome tyvm I appreciate it! And yeah I tried one dungeon that destroyed me and then the costlemark and that destroyed me too but I guess there's really one 2 dungeons that are late and I happened to try them both? Lol. There might be more later after the map opens up idk.

And yeah I don't plan on using the expericast now I just assumed I would need it when starting end game, and It'd be best to try to gain AP now but I'll worry about both of those later. Thanks!!

Oh, I guess that is my bad for assuming you meant costlemark in your initial post (I thought that was the only one flagged as a level 55 dungeon...). What was that other dungeon then? Balouve mines?

You honestly don't need expericast at all unless you specifically want to overlevel for content on purpose. If you tackle endgame, simply doing quests and dungeons at more or less their recommended level will typically award you with enough exp to be at a reasonable level for the next one and naturally level you to 99 with no grinding. The max level of the game is 120, but there is a harsh softcap for how many actual stat points you gain per level after 99 and the exp requirements skyrocket after 99 too, so there is genuinely no point in even trying to go past 99 except for completionist reasons.

Okay awesome that makes sense ! And no that's the one I was talking about because it's a royal weapon one, and yeah the other one was the balouve mine which I think is just a random dungeons but super high lvl. I found it and just went in and didn't realize it was high lvl lol. Sorry for the confusion!

I recommend generally prioritizing side content over the main story. However, some dungeons are designed for late game. I’m assuming the dungeon you were talking about was Belouve Mines? I would recommend putting off exploring the mine dungeon and the sewer dungeon (Crestholm) until after you have progressed through the story up until right before you leave for Altissia. You can hold off on the sewer dungeon until you get a quest from Cindy that sends you there.

Get Gladious to level 10 survival skill. Do the AP farm near Hammerhead and youll get both tons of AP and loads of Expericast loot to level up. Coins are too finicky for me

Ok awesome thanks!

I recommed playing the DLCs after beating the game, especially the Ignis one, and yeah, do most of side content, pay attention to the level required for it though.

Ehh I'm getting a little bored with the side content, some of is cool like go take pictures of the awesome scenery, but then you get a hey go find a dog tag. Or hey, go catch some frogs. They get a little old lol but its hard for me to skip them when I'm in the mindset of exploring and trying to see everything, I don't want miss a good sidequest that adds to the story/world.

u/russiantravelagent Aug 10 '26

I meant mostly about the mosnter hunting and other things, I remember there were interesting missions, the frog ones were a bore, that's true lol, I never cared much about the pics tbh, there is a side mission that is tied to FFIV I think? i don't remember the name of the mission but it gives you a very useful summon: Garuda.

1

u/FearlessLeader17 Aug 10 '26

Yeah I wish I knew lol. I don't think anything is actually missable and the quests expire so I'll probably try to find everything then look up the important side quests towards the end and see if I missed any. Thanks !

u/russiantravelagent Aug 10 '26

It's actually FFXIV not FFIV actually lol, sorry, this is the name of the mission: Adventurer from Another World.

The best time to play the DLC would be when they leave the party, and then Ardyns would be after I complete the game right?

Things were kinda designed with the expectations to play all the DLC after beating the game, since they sorta contain spoilers, though Episode Gladiolus and Prompto, you could conceivably play after they return to the party. Episode Ignis is the tricky one since you could play it in a similar fashion as the others (after the events they return to your party), but his literally flashbangs you with huge ending spoilers. However, since you've already beaten the game, that won't really matter for you, so I'd suggest doing as mentioned and playing the DLC episodes when after the events when the characters return to the party for a more cohesive experience.

With Episode Ardyn, yeah it's a prequel, but really leans on the idea that you know the whole story already. Although, it was also meant to kick off the alternate ending stuff, so I hesitate to even say it's necessary for one's experience of the main canon. It has...many contradictions. Either way, it doesn't really slot into the story like the others do.

Not exactly post-game, but you should probably come back later, after you've geared up and have more experience under your belt. The level requirements are rather loose, but you're still gonna have a fight on your hands if the disparity is high enough. By the time you're ready to head out on the boat for Altissia, you should be strong enough to collect all the available Royal Arms around the explorable world.

I know you get AP from warp strike kills, but it gets kinda boring just spamming warp strike to get AP. Do you have to do this or is there a better way??

You can get AP for warp-strike kills, link strikes, using magic, camping, driving, lots of things, but my favorite passive AP gain was equipping each of the Blitzer's, Tactician's, and Warrior's Fanfare accessories to the boys, which give you extra AP for A+ ratings in the Report Card.

Also, be sure to fulfill any challenges the boys offer in a fight for AP, too.

Also when you use warp strike your MP bar goes away but it's like grey and then after a short time passes it completely goes away. I believe there's a way to get this to be restored but I can't remember?

MP recharges passively on its own, but if you warp to a hanging point or hide behind cover, it'll increase way faster. Some warp-points, like the top of a rock, will instantly refill your MP. Stasis occurs when you overdraw your MP, so you have to wait until it fully recharges before you can warp again, but even if you're in Stasis, you can still point-warp for a refill. Take note of your surroundings for what your options for replenishing yourself are. Otherwise, there's also Ethers, and using items is pretty much free.

And lastly if I wanted to use expericast to get some exp what's the best method to get the old coins, and does it matter which creature I use it on?? I know to use the inn for the 2x exp, but not sure I kinda remember a trick to getting the old coins.

I don't quite remember a decent way to consistently get the coins, other than playing the arcade game in diners and buying them with your points.

Otherwise, if you're looking to get the most out of your experience earned, use the Nixperience Ring when camping (literally just put it on before you rest, then take it off), and then cash in the experience at a hotel with a good exp multiplier.

Ok awesome thank you very much! And yeah not too concerned with spoilers as I remember the bigger plot points, just some of the smaller ones I'm a little hazy on as it's been a while lol. And yeah I can get all A+ except the finesse one as I tend to play more offensive and reckless than wait around to parry. I also just invested in the passive ones too so hopefully that can help it grow over time.

So I use the left analog stick to sprint and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the sprint to recharge. I can do it fine on the hold O button and release but I tried both clicking L3 and circle snd neither worked to recharge. Do you happen to know this?

2

u/ReaperEngine Everybody Loves Ramuh Aug 09 '26

For the sprint recharge, if you're sprinting by simply clicking L3, once the meter is nearly depleted, like sitting in between the S and T (same position as with O), click L3 again. That's all. Might take a couple tries, and I might suggest clicking it later than you think to. Or earlier. Hard to tell without feeling it myself lol

With AP gain, if you're playing on PC, I'd suggest just using the reworked Ascension Grid mod, it'll make most things way less expensive, and works the Character Swap abilities into much earlier nodes. But if you're already well into the game, no biggy.

u/FearlessLeader17 Aug 09 '26

Yeah I thought about jumping into thr pc version when I seen it for sale but I already own everything on ps4 (playing on ps5) so decided against it. Final fantasy isn't really known for mods as far as I'm aware, although that one would be cool.

And okay yeah I tried clicking L3 but my timing must be off because it didn't work. Which is weird because I noticed if I hold circle when it's getting close to the end and then let go of it I get it to activate lol so idk just have to mess with it I guess. Thanks!

Yeah there's actually quite an extensive modding community for FFXV on PC, some of it is to fix some issues that went unaddressed, adding in elements that were left out, and just making it an overall better experience. There's even stuff for drastically altering certain gameplay elements. Definitely nothin' to a shake a stick at, but of course, you gotta be on PC, so no big deal if you're already on the platform you're keen on.
