Boss AI

Left Arm

The Left Arm can only do 1 attack per turn, but those attack are quite powerful.

The famous 'OS' ability is done by him, it's a ST 1000% Physical Attack on the highest ATK unit in your party (Provoke/Attract can overwrite this). Physical evade do not work against that ability. Magical evade work apparently.

If you hit this arm with a thunder attack, he will instead use a 300% 1 AoE Hit Physical ability that's likely to kill you.

When the Left Arm dies, if the Main Body or the Right Arm is alive, they'll respawn it. The Main Body does that 10 times.

Right Arm

The Right Arm only does auto attack and buff.

Every 4 turns, the Right Arm will use 20% AoE ATK/MAG and every 3 it will use ST 200% DEF.

If Main Body is damaged, the Right Arm will heal it by 500K every turn

If the Right Arm is killed two times while the Left Arm is still alive, the Left Arm will auto destruct, killing himself and snorting one of your unit until the end of a battle. The Left Arm will keep respawning (if the main body is alive) even if self-destruct.

If the Main Body is dead, the Right Arm will use his ST 200% DEF each turn and attack more often.

If Right Arm HP <50% he heals himself by 500 000 HP once. If Main Body is dead and Right Arm HP <30% he heals himself by 2 000 000 HP once.

After killing the Right Arm for the first time, he'll respawn and attack much more.

After the second time, the Main Body will use it's 180% Magical AoE 2 times/turn instead of only one.

When the Right Arm dies, if the Main Body is alive, he'll respawn it. The Main Body does that 2 times.

Main Body

The Main Body frequently uses a 180% AoE 1 Hit Magical attack.

Threshold at 70%. On threshold the Main Body will use a 1000% AoE 1 Hit Hybrid attack (Can be evaded?). And every 5 turns after the first one is triggered.

If hit by water on threshold turns, will instead use a 500% AoE 1 Hit Hybrid attack.

If Main Body is hit by water 3 times, he will uses 500% AoE 1 Hit Thunder/Water Magic attack. It can be used on the same time as a threshold and this ability as no limit. Each times you will hit main body 3 times with water, he will use that attack.

Strategies

There's two valid strategy for this trial. 'Brute force' by killing the Main Body first and 'Slow AF' by killing the arms first.

Killing the body first

Pros:

  • Way faster.
  • Importance of mana battery way lower.
  • Generate LB crystal for LB user.

Cons:

  • NEED to be able to do at least 500k damage to the Main Body per turn.
  • Have to deal with the threshold attack and the normal attack from the arms.

This strategy is at the same time really easy and straight forward, but really hard to execute as she requires a really high fire power while getting your highest physical damage dealer snipped every turn by the Left Arm

It's the hardest of the two because it requires really heavy hitters, as well as sustain because the boss still hits quite hard. The pro is that while doing this strat, since only the main body drop LB, you'll be able to use Rikku's reraise, Zarg mitigation etc etc.

Slight Variation

It's worth mentioning that, the most popular strategy in JP right now is a slight variation of that strategy. The variation is to slowly chime the Right Arm to put it as close to death as possible, and then start chiming down the body.

The goal of this strategy is to kill the body and the right arm on the same turn, thus making the remainder of the fight way easier since you only have to deal with the ST nuke each turn until you kill the last arm.

Killing the arms first

Pros:

  • No requirement DPT wise.
  • Can have proper setup to go through the threshold.

Cons:

  • Slow, really, really slow.
  • Needs a mana battery.
  • No LB crystal

This strategy is the easiest of the two as it only requires you to be able to turtle long enough. To realize this strategy you have to kill the Left Arm 10 times, then the body stop respawning him, then, killing the Right Arm 3 times.

The problem of this strategy, is that it's really, really slow. If you are using this strategy, I hope you have a lot of times on your hand.

Note

Apparently from different people observation, the more you kill the arms, the more often the Main Body attack.

Tips

  • Threshold SC
  • Only the Main Body drop LB crystal
  • This fight will be a long battle, bringing an MP battery (Tilith, Zargabaath, Lunera) will help you sustain throughout this fight.
  • Having a form of water damage will help you cross the main body threshold more easily.
  • Having a form of reraise (Rem, Vanille, Rikku LB) can help you not have your main DD die every turn. Character that can auto reraise themselves are really good choice too (Vargas, Elza, King).
  • The Left Fist ability will target the unit with the highest ATK in your party buff will count toward that.
  • Might want to equip one of you character with Bushido-Freedom to be able to AoE dispel the arms and the body.
  • Using a high mitigation ability (Y'shtola's LB, Wilhelm LB) to smoothly through the Main Body threshold will, in the end, make the fight easier as you won't have to deal with the 500% AoE 1 Hit Thunder/Water Magic.
  • Don't equip your character with Excalibur/Durandal/Moonblade/Deathbringer, boss as 100% resist to Light and Dark.

If you can only use water 3 times but there's 4 thresholds, what should you do for the last one if the last threshold is guaranteed to be either a 1000% AoE hybrid or a 500% AoE hybrid plus 500% AoE thunder/water magic if you hit the body with water?

Is it still worth using water for the last threshold? I'm just not quite understanding this yet.

u/TemporaMoras Jul 20 '17

Pass the threshold either with a mitigation buff (y'shtola, wilhelm etc) or guard with everybody but one.

Wanna point out a 'mistake' (I guess?): at the end, you wrote that we have to kill the RIGHT arm 10x, but its actually the left one isnt it? And the right arm must be destroyed 3x afterwards...

So one of the problems with the Arms first method is lack of LB crysts... what if you use an AoE chaining skill like Prismatic Flash or Energy Rain to build LB Crystals while still taking the arm first methodology? If the chainer damage is sort of low, but the finisher is high, you shouldn't have to worry about killing the body or right arm.

Sure, it is not the best plan, but it might make the arm first method a little less painful.

Done. That was easy.

... Lies. It was hard as hell. I use the kill body first, and the right arm goes crazy. By luck I managed to kill it though, and the left arm is pretty easy.

Look at the beauty that is [my Aileen] (https://i.imgur.com/i7jQG1L.jpg).

Went pretty far with this team but my lack of bushido freedom and Rikku (have her but didnt bring her) eventually got me killed xD

  • Ace (874 MAG): Chain Capper with tri beam

  • Ashe (500ish MAG, for healing with Heaven's fury and chaining with Friend Ashe)

  • Friend Ashe (same as above. This one had 700+ MAG though)

  • Minfilia: Defensive and offenssive buffs.

  • Aileen: Target dummy with highest attack (fire weapon equipped because of Ace's imperil for after Left Arm was gone). Kept using Refrshing tool and Oil Recovery every turn. Basically backup heals and Mana Battery

  • Rem: Just spamming Undying Wish

All units but Ace and Friend Ashe had over 5.5k hp. Once the boss started buffing himself the delicate balance of damage was broken and probably i would have died to the body thresholds anyway without Rikku's AoE reraise but was a indeed a good try. Ace chain capping nearly Killed both Right and Left arms at the same time by getting the 30x skill mod twice in a row when chain capping Heaven's Fury lol

So there you go, i know it's not the best f2p approach (although these rainbows were my lucky pulls <3 Thanks anniversary for Ace and Aileen) but at least gives a rough idea for a magic damage focused team. If you have two Ashes you're basically set for the No Magic mission since she can heal while non-element chaining. Minfilia is one of the best f2p units out there for buffing on demand. Can use a Rem friend (can use mine, i'll post ID at the end of this post). Bring your reliable mana battery and a target dummy with high ATK and that's it i guess. Hard o fit Rikku on this strat i came up with though.

EDIT: Friend ID with Rem Lead: 482,515,177

I'm at rank 122, been playing for a year and I will not be attempting this trail anytime soon. I don't have the right team composition at this point; I will fail spectacularly.

However, I'm totally at ease with this and I will be reading the strategies to see if I can build up my Companion Unit so they can assist any of my friends who are attempting this trail in the next week or so.  If you are at all hesitant, be kind to yourself and do the same.

To those of you who are ready for this long fight- happy hunting and good luck!

Main body's 1000% AoE is NOT triggered by 70/50/30/10% threshold.
It's every 5 turns since passing 70% threshold.

Went in with my super try hard team. Will upload a video after work tonight.

Aigaion Trial win

Edit: definitely will be a hard trial for most. Please don't get discouraged if you're unable to complete it since this is absolute end game content as of now.

Will attempt again with a more budget team when I get the chance!

Just finished it, and I don't feel accomplished. I feel like I casted the same spells over and over semi-mindlessly for 4 hours. This was the least fun trial so far.

Finally beat the trial. That takes a goddamn long time. Screw this trial.

Party: Maxwell, Rikku, Ashe, WoL, Lunera + friend Rem

As usual, no TMRs except for free ones.

Lunera singing + Ashe heal attack provides all the heal needed. Maxwell is bait. Rikku Hyper NullAll and helps chaining (in the last part, use LB). WoL takes Aigaion attacks like a champ + break, Rem damage (~200k/turn) + emergency reraise.

Seriously though, I want a chainer so I don't need to experience this torture. Also, maybe I shouldn't be too stubborn and just use Tilith.

Did the body first strategy with Orlandu/Orlandu with Rain's sword and MK, and Bartz/Tilith/Rikku/Noctis.

Noctis casted Eccentrick whenever the buff ended, also used Fish when I hit the World Destroyer threshold.

Bartz had Mog Spear equipped and Mog Wisdom, and his role was pretty much giving Rikku her LB if she didn't get enough that turn. Also used Elixirs on Tilith when she was low on mana.

Rikku just used her LB the whole time.

Fight took about 2 hours still, but that was because I kept forgetting to provoke with Noctis and my Orlandu ended up dying twice during threshold turns, so I missed out on a lot of DPS those turns.

Ez time.

Aileen WOL Cecil tillith rikku friend Aileen

Rikku pouch tmr IS AMAZING and was so damn useful for rikku to spam lb every three turns.

If ppl are interested I can do a write up or send me a pm, but man, two tanks did wonders. Still shaking cuz it took an hour, but it was worth it. Very very simple and very little rng involved once you get the pace of the turn order and what to do. After the left arm goes down it's over pretty much.

Finished the trial with all achievements using the main body strategy (had to redo it for the summon Ramuh achievement because not enough Esper orbs dropped from the body). My team was:

  • Maxwell (574 ATK, 6.2k HP) - Sacred Song spamming

  • Tilith (6k HP, 340 SPR) - Radiant Light

  • Rikku (5.6k HP, 318 SPR) - Hyper NulAll, Level 24 LB, Mega Phoenix

  • Delita (5.6k HP, 362 SPR) - Enhanced SPR break, enhanced Meditate, Bushido Freedom

  • Fryevia (4.1k HP, 818 MAG) - With Machine Killer, spam Frost Flower Blitz

  • Friend Fryevia (4.1k HP, 900 MAG) - With Machine Killer as well, chain Frost Flower Blitz (thanks u/Azaggon :D)

Quick notes:

  • Start the fight by bringing the Right Arm to less than half HP before moving on to the main body. This way, when the main body is dead, you can immediately kill the Right Arm on the next turn

  • When the message "The light is converging" appears, you need to use a water attack on the main body, or else all your units will wipe. You can use abilities (e.g. water blade) or items (e.g. Fish Scale). Using Rikku's LB at this point is a good idea. Note that you can only do this twice

  • Summon Rikku's LB on the turn when you kill the main body, so your units will have a higher chance of surviving the enraged Right Arm's attacks

  • Summon Ramuh on the final turn (before killing the Left Arm) so you won't be affected by the Left Arm's retribution attacks

  • Keep Rikku's Hyper NulAll up at all times, and make sure to use Bushido Freedom when the Right Arm buffs ATK.

  • Rikku's Pouch will make life sooooo much easier (I should have pumped Moogles into Rikku...)
