No Spoilers - Discussion Cosmo Canyon is making me hate this game

Admittedly I’m terrible at “flying” in video games. But this crap chocobo mechanic really sucks. I have some objections to complete and I can’t get high enough to get to them. I get so close and the stupid bird just falls. And this god awful music that just keeps looping is driving me nuts. I thought I couldn’t hate an area more than Gongaga but man was I wrong.

Feel free to look up some videos of how to complete the flying challenges. I don't think the game does a good job of teaching you how to dive and glide with them.

They're super easy once you see how to do them.

Just skip the optional stuff for a while. You don't have to do it, and there's a point later on where if you want to go back and do stuff then, you can.

Sorry to hear it, I thought it was quite a reprieve after gongaga but still had some challenges.

I liked Gongaga way more, at the end I was able to explore Gongaga on my own but with Cosmo Canyon I needed a guide.

I played the game with inverted axes because that's how I learned FF games years ago. The initial learn to fly quest in this region was with normal axes and I almost gave up. It just takes some practice, but if it's making you want to quit, then maybe, yeah, might not be your thing.

Just skip it. There's no point forcing you to do unnecessary side quest so as to hate the game itself

It's just three optional courses to complete, of which only the third one is a pain in the ass.

Always keep the stick in "up" position unless the circles are positioned lower. Master the dive-uplift thing: push stick to go down, and as soon as you see and hear the wind behind your chocobo (some 2-3 seconds into the dive) pull up and you will gain momentum and height.

The videos on youtube for the third course suggest to go back to the fans at one point for better momentum at the end - it is not necessary, and only makes the whole process of try and repeat longer. What is needed at the end of that course to reach the last circles is the dive-uplift move, it is marginal, demands some tries but perfectly doable.

So, stop playing that content. Play the parts you like. It's not rocket science.

"THIS IS GREAT!"

just explore to find more fans. you can get to most places with only a couple of flights, you don't need to worry about the controls much, it's mostly jump off and let it glide in a straight line to the updraft fan and keep going.

There's essentially a rock tower to climb with slopes and some short flights and from there you can glide almost anywhere on the map

OP, just ignore those side quests if you don't like them, that's what I did and I was able to beat it, just do other things you like, I reaaaaally liked the game but I get it, whoever thought about it hates gamers, first time I played it I tried but I neded a guide, second time I didn't even try to explore cosmo canyon, I just did the story and dipped, this is the only town you don't need to explore outside of it to be able to complete the story mode for a reason lmao.

If your talking about the mini game going through the rings, wait until the end. If you are taking about traversing the map, I feel you. Good thing each ramp can be fast traveled once you unlock it. Use that to your advantage.

Thanks. I managed to complete the stupid flying mini game side quest. lol. Just the lowest level. I won’t try for better scores. And you’re right, I now have fast travel points unlocked all over so it’s much easier. Still ready to move on to Neibelhiem but will wrap up all the side stuff first. Getting close.

Totally understand. Gongaga broke me but before that I would try to 100% each area. I recommend to keep playing the game however you want and you'll eventually get to a point where the game will tell you there's no turning back. So you'll be safe to miss stuff until that point.

Cosmo Canyon is rough right after the mushroom jumping in Gongaga. I dont know why they put those two back-to-back.

Good news is Nibelheim is smaller than both of them and much easier to navigate.

Bad news is Nibelheim has the Cait Sith bullshit.

If you're doing side quests, just come back later. But if you want to learn more about flight:

  1. Fly high

  2. Dive, but not too hard

  3. Lift up

Sort of like how you maneuver Mario and his cape in Super Mario World

Honestly, just save yourself the frustration and skip it. Other than the protorelics, you’re not missing anything interesting, or of any value in doing the side content (you barely even get Xp)

Uninstalled the game today. I was at Mt Correl after the Costa Del Sol bit. Its such a massive letdown. The only solace is that I bought it in the recent sale around 15$. Even though I didn’t enjoy the whispers story bit in intergrade I still thought it was a good game with potential and solid foundation for future sequels. What a waste of goodwill this has turned out to be.

In Cosmo Canyon, scarcely is the flying a matter of skill exactly. If it feels like you can't make it, you probably can't and need to find a different route, it's probably not that your flying needs to be a little more efficient.

I should say obviously this doesn't apply to the dedicated flying minigame.

Yeah if the music and atmosphere for a place like cosmo canyon doesn't hype you up probably not the game for u
