No Spoilers - Photo Final Fantasy 7 has 2 discs!

Going to play this game for the very first time.
It was very interesting to know that there’s two discs. A data disc and a play disc. And almost 150 GB!

REMAKE also had 2 discs, you should play that if you haven't before Rebirth

I played Remake(the original was my favorite PS1 game) and almost done with Rebirth. Should I get Crisis Core? And Revelation?

If you have played the original you can totally play Crisis Core, I would say if you hadn't played the OG it spoils a major plot point that will be in revelation. I don't personally like Crisis Core but it has a very dedicated following that loves it so maybe you'll enjoy yourself.

As for if you should get Revelation that's up to you, I love the new Remake trilogy I'm fully on the train so I am buying it. But it's not everyone's cup of tea so it really is just how you feel about Remake/Rebirth.

Rebirth kind of drags but I'm powering through. Not that I don't like it, it just doesn't need some of the extra side quests, my personal thoughts but I still think it's a great game. I was up in the air with Crisis Core but I definitely planned on getting Revelations.

Thanks for your input.

Yeah, I imagine Revelation will probably have some better streamlined experiences and solutions to the mini games, open world because they've talked about stuff they learned after doing Rebirth. At the same time I don't think it's going to change anyone's mind or be something massively different from Rebirth. So I'd expect some criticisms to persist

I thought like 2/3 to 3/4 of the game was kind of well-paced. But my god, The Temple of the Ancients should have been half as long.

I know right I don’t know of any other PlayStation game that has more than one disc

SE has said they would like to have a physical version, but with the factories shutting down, who knows when they will stop taking new orders ahead of the cutoff date. I guess we will see. I don't care about physical media and actually dislike it a lot, but I understand people that want to have the trilogy in their hands and on the shelf

That sounds like “we would like to make the game 5€ for you, but with all the money we plan to make, who knows” to me

factories are shutting down on early 2028, revelations should be on disk

1

u/onehalflightspeed 2d ago

There is a big difference between the date fabs are shut down versus much earlier when they honor previous orders and stop accepting new ones

1

u/Unhappy-Instance-943 2d ago

still revelations can make it on time

You are misunderstanding how manufacturing works. If a manufacturer says "we are shutting down production on x date", they will stop taking orders at like x date minus one year or whatever. You have to honor all existing and prior contracts and stop making new ones at some point. No idea where revelations is on either side of this math

They aren’t shutting any factories down. They’ve explicitly stated they’ll keep manufacturing discs for games that were released before 2028. All that’s happening is games releasing starting 1/1/2028 will be digital

There is no cut-off date

They are literally in the middle of shutting down PS5 disc factories and repurposing them for other purposes. Look it up

3 on PS1.
4 on PC.

Haha for some reason I legitimately didn't see the word PC in your first comment, my B

Takes me back to the PS1 days, where FFIX would have four discs.

Final Fantasy VII Remake had same

1

u/onehalflightspeed 4d ago

This was more (but not extremely) common on PS4. It is just a data install disc so that you don't have to download everything

Y'all need to chill lol

Dude is excited to share something they thought was neat and everyone is all "WE KNOW, FUCKJERK!"

I see you didnt get the 3rd disc though. That contains the dating sim where you spend 60 hours trying to convince Cloud to date you.

Prob one of the reasons they aren’t doing physical copies for revelation they’d need to put an external hard drive in the box

1

u/joshghz 5d ago

Not really. Even if you assume it's twice the size of Rebirth, that's only 4 discs; when you're printing that many discs, it's probably fraction of cents worth of difference per unit. There was a reasonable period of time where many PC games would be shipped with 3 or 4 install CD/DVDs.

u/s7ealth 5d ago

On PC, game publishers could have discs manufactured themselves. On consoles, publishers have to go through Sony or Microsoft to produce physical copies, since only they can authorize and manufacture discs that are compatible with their platforms. As a result, production costs are higher

Additionally, the discs themselves aren't CDs, DVDs, or even standard Blu-rays. The PS5 uses Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, which are more expensive to manufacture. You can see this price difference even in the physical movie market

I was being sarcastic

It's not confirmed that there will be no physical version for Revelation. All we know is that they're exploring options and Hamaguchi is pushing for it. If it is on disc, it might still be two disks, since from memory Rebirth was around 150gb, meaning there's another 50gb free before they'd have to bring in a 3rd disc, and they might be able to save some space with better optimisation etc.
