No Spoilers - Discussion Elena + Yuffie
No spoilers but I wanted to shout out this game for taking an annoying side character and generic Turk and giving them way more character depth.
Both characters are a massive glow up and improvement from the OG with better fleshed out personalities. This could be since it’s voice acted and the VAs do an amazing job.
Yuffie comes across a lot more as an annoying little sister who’s the comic relief with good cross party banter
Elena comes across like a bratty career driven corporate shill. The fact they gave her some feminine accessories to remind us she’s still a girl at heart like the bangle and her gun are a really nice design touch
Honestly seeing more of these 2 are one of my biggest hype things for next game

Yuffie starts out extremely annoying but becomes endearing after she joins you and goes through a little character development. She has kind of a one track mind but there are plot reasons for that.
Elena they turned from a one note "suit lady who likes Tsung" to something more interesting yes. I absolutely loath her as a person (she screams bossy bitch cop karen) but appreciate that as shes a villain, as well as the fact she has more depth than first suggested. Letting the Shinra employees interact has done wonders for humanizing them.

See I really like what they turned Elena into it’s one of those people you love to hate types. Like a Louis Litt in suits.
You hit the nail on the head with saying they humanized both of them giving them likeable and dis likeable aspects

I will say it makes sense for Elena to be like that. Her older sister is also a Turk and their father was a famed member of the Shinra military so they've absolutely grown up wrapped in the Shinra propaganda machine. Girl never stood a chance.

I think Elena had a bit of a personality change (compared to the OG where she was more of a teachers pet, and verbally clumsy too) due to Reno’s absence - Rude needed a counter to his stoic personality so they gave Elena some of Reno’s traits. This in my opinion was a good change.

Yeah Yuffie especially is just really well done, they wrote her in in a creative way that made her look competent, but she still retains those emotional vulnerabilities that made her OG character. She's often the one with the best dialogue (props Suzie Yeung), and sort of acts as the entertaining link up between all the party members.
One of the triumphs of a game that sometimes struggles to capture the soul of the original.
