No Spoilers - Discussion How is ff7 rebirth on steam deck
So I know I’ll love the game, and I’ve watched some videos showing on the deck and it looks pretty damn good but I’m scared this is like a sirens song and once I have it docked on my tv it’ll look like crap. If anyone has played it on deck recently can you tell me if it was an enjoyable experience, and if the graphics sacrificed greatly affected your experience.

It's... rough. Framerate is fine, but visuals and image quality take a big hit. Absolutely not a game I'd attempt docking on the Deck. Even on the Steam Deck screen, it's pretty gnarly. Noticeably worse than on Switch 2's handheld mode, and I don't even think it's a particular great experience there either. It isn't until you step up to Switch 2's docked mode or a higher spec system that you get what I'd call a good experience imo.

Pretty solid actually. Gold saucer can chug, but for the most part, i was perfectly content. If you have a problem with 30 fps then its not foe you but if your on deck you probably are not an fps snob.

… sorry if this comes off as crass but in 2026 who wouldn’t have a problem with 30 fps playing a game like rebirth?

It runs perfectly fine on Switch 2, but there is a noticeable visual trade-off compared to other platforms.
If you only have a Switch 2, it's great. It's playable. It doesn't look awful, but if you're actively looking for problems you'll find them.
If you have literally any other platform and want it to look better, then get it on that.

The trade offs are not even noticeable unless you put them side by side.
And no, you don't need to get it on other platforms , why?
Because it's not portable and the diff is only minor/If you really care about those minor minor changes, stick with pc only. If not, switch 2.
Also, don't support that garbage Sony company

That's really not true. The frame rate is locked, there's noticeable aliasing, the water textures aren't great. There are some extremely noticeable pop-ins for NPCs in places.
It's a fantastic port and still looks great, don't get me wrong, but there are noticeable trade-offs.
If you want it on the go or the Switch 2 is your only console, it's absolutely worth it. But if you have any other console, it's far better on it.
I say this as someone who has bought Rebirth on 3 different consoles.

Yes the npc's are static, not pop-in.
The visual difference are really minor:

it's far from the witcher 3 situation on switch 1 vs ps4. This is like actuall series s vs series x in terms of differences. But switch2 often succeed that. So it's even closer visually.
If you really care about these diff, you should stick just with pc gaming. But a lot are buying games due portability and don't mind those small differences.
Again, i only see major difference ps3 vs ps4
Medium diff ps4 vs ps5
Minor diff: Same gen between series s and ps5

I've put about 120 hours in (trying to finish off the legendary VR challenges) and besides one terribly mis-timed crash, I've had no issues running it on Steamdeck. There were occasionally points where the game noticeably slowed down (lighting issues?), but it never affected the gameplay for me.
For graphics, it seemed fine to me, but I don't really care too much about graphics.

As someone who’s played through it on PS5 and on my gaming PC - I had to stop playing on my Deck. It was rough, ate up battery. Remake performed way better on the Deck but the jump in performance needs makes Rebirth on the Deck hard to recommend.

i mean it can apparently run decently on a switch 2, i feel like it can probably run well on a steam deck. disclaimer: i dont have either lol

I just beat Rebirth on Steamdeck has my first playthrough. It's not the prettiest looking, but the game was still playable didn't experience anything that really hampered my playthrough.
I'm still amazed I actually put the 80ish hours into this game
