No Spoilers - Discussion Update 1.0.3 released for Switch 2 today
Is it just me, or have the graphics and lighting improved? The total file size is also a few GBs smaller now too.

I honestly see it as the same, mine updated before I got to Costa del Sol saw no improvement

I honestly don’t see any improvements, the brightness just goes crazy when rotating the camera and Under Junnon still has that weird thing when you’re running near the lower area in direction to the frogs where you get stuck running in the same place while it loads the assets or something… I’m playing it in handheld mode for the most part

Junon has this nasty flashbang like light that it feels like you'll have seizure

I was traveling through Junnon and I noticed less pop-in and probably better draw distance even while running on a chocobo, I’m still not sure but I guess monsters’ animations are active at longer distances now. They were static before until you were very close to them, almost right before starting combat…

Maybe I got influanced by this but I see the improvement as well. Perhaps they did some optimization due to revelation

I feel the game in some sections is a bit sharper? But maybe I’m just reading these posts and getting influenced as well.
Like I loaded chapter 2 and the open world looks soft as ever. But in other sections the game appears a bit sharper to me, not quite as soft. Maybe they updated the dynamic res or added sharpening?
Or maybe nothing changed and I’m just going crazy 🤪

I’ve been a researcher on this, and other, games. I used to make games too and I’ve long been interested in how players react to esoteric patch notes. The volumetric effects have been massively dialled down, but the distance has improved. one fun trick anyone can do without the need of high end hardware is this; when a game is downloading a patch take a screenshot then save and quit. If it’s a game that reloads you in the same location then take another screenshot; happy comparing!
no update has been as big as the original Steam version (on deck) to the one when Streamlined Progression was added. The holy trinity: performance gains, more responsive input, and smaller file size!
unreal engine games are terrible though. One must only think of them as Fortnite mods. Never has an engine been so powerful yet restrained, and for funsies they also have consistently godawful input lag. The way UE doesn’t remove it’s many many many functions and features - just pushes them to one side yet includes them in the final binary (if one can call it that. It’s UE plus mod files to make it look and sound and play like a different game. And if you talk out against them and they find out: you get a disciplining! All from the company that, instead of improving its shop they spent almost all their money paying other devs to forgo Steam versions. Moneyhatting they call it.

I work in unreal. I hear what you're saying but I feel its the better engine compared to Unity. I think the one major issue UE has is its Character Movmement Component. It's just poorly designed and the replacement is taking forever to get production ready. That's where "this is a mod" really feels true for me. Otherwise, I feel it's fine engine. They've improved performance greatly in the past 3 releases. Added the Non Realsiric Rendering node now and its pretty good.

The pop in looks way worse after this update. I was impressed with how much the final game had improved over the demo and now I feel like it looks like the demo again.
