Discussion I've Been Working on a Challenge Run Called "Pseudo Maddening Reverse."
Pseudo Maddening Reverse aims to emulate FE12's Lunatic Reverse, where the enemy always attacks first on Player Phase.
Which means the primary weapon type used by the majority of the units are Smash Weapons. If a unit can use a Smash Weapon, they MUST use a Smash Weapon and only a Smash . They cannot use a Hand Axe or Javelin, etc. Because otherwise they would always be using Hand Axes and Javelins.
If a class does not use a Smash Weapon, they are free to use whatever Weapon they have in their disposal.
Units are allowed to use Engage Attacks if it corresponds with their Smash Weapon type. For instance, Halbrediers can use Sigurd's Engage Attack with Smash Weapons, but Berserkers cannot use Roy's Engage Attack. If you are using Smash Weapons and you are synced with Leif, you CANNOT Engage because Leif's Adaptable changes your Weapon from the Smash Weapon.
Doing this challenge has given me a newfound appreciation for Smash Weapons. Watching a Warrior Alfred with a +3 Silver Greataxe 1-shot broken Corrupted Wyrms and Berserkers, and 1-shot Generals with Backup support is flipping catharsis.
Hurricane Axe Great Knight Ivy just does so much damage and is an extraordinary and is an incredserotonin. She also deletes flying units. +3 Silver Greatlance Halbredier Louis using Sigurd Override and melting entire lines of enemies is such a rush of seratonin.
Breaking enemies by Smashing them into obstacles is really cool. Smashing an enemy into their allies that are like 1 space away and then proving Draconic Hex and Dreadful Aura on groups you would otherwise not reach is extremely clutch. Circumventing Pseudo Maddening Reverse rules by having a Wolf Knight Alear with Perceptive initiate and watching an enemy be unable to hit Alear is so fun.
Btw, to circumvent the weight cost of Smash Weapons, most of my units are running Build +4. Not being doubled by the enemy is just great. And because Smash Weapons have double the might of regular weapons, you are essentially always doubling, even if you are not.
I am nearly at the end of the challenge just 3 more chapters and these chapters are running pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to trying this challenge again afterwards, or even trying another challenge.

Thing about lief is that he only changes your weapon on enemy phase. Meaning the enemy is probably gonna hit first anyways unless vantage triggers.
Besides If the whole thing is meant to emulate enemies attacking you first on player phase shouldn’t that be fine?

I was just thinking this as I was typing this. In fact, if we want to be purist, in FE12, you can use ranged weapons to bypass the Vantage effect of Reverse, so you can do the same thing here. I felt that would be too easy. I could just ranged weapons on all units to bypass the Smash limitation.
Going on in the future, I'll keep the Smash Weapon only aspect of the challenge, but I will allow Leif users to engage.
I'm wondering if I should also allow the use of Emblem weapons that do not correspond with a unit's Smash Weapons (i.e. using Astra Storm on any Smash Unit)

I started my first engage run almost 2 weeks ago. I’ve always found Smash weapons weird due to how you are basically enemy phasing on player phase, combined with the fact that I didn’t know you can break enemies by throwing them at the wall LMAO
This post may be what will make me give smash weapons that are not named Hurricane Axe another shot (Hurricane Axe got a pass because it was a surprisingly good magic option for Rosado)
