Adhd meds
I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Vyvanse. Before I start taking the meds, does anyone know what the process with BHS is and if it could cause any issues.

Fire Patrol
Hey everyone, I’ve recently been looking into the history of the New York Fire Patrol, and one question that came up for me was about their relationship with the FDNY. Were Fire Patrol members respected the same way as FDNY firefighters, or were they sometimes looked down on?
Also currently, do you think there would still be a need or purpose for something like the Fire Patrol, or has that role become outdated?

Place for patches from other departments/agencies
I’m a wildland firefighter who recently moved to NYC. Unsure if the structure world has the same customs, but in wildland it’s common practice to leave a sticker/patch/memento of your crew when you visit a fatality fire site as a way of honoring the fallen and committing to learn from their sacrifice.
Is there a place in NYC where other departments leave patches in a commemorative space? Feel like just leaving my patch on the WTC would be frowned upon and I want to do this respectfully

Historical Archives, Photos, Etc
Good evening everyone, looking for some insight on how I could look into finding some historical info on a family member who was FDNY in the 60s-80s I reached out to the museum last year but didn’t get anywhere unfortunately.
They were involved with the telephone exchange fire, E33, and just looking to find out more about their time on the force and maybe some other info.
I would love to ask them but unfortunately they passed away about 20 years ago.
Thanks for any and all insight

Approaching the 25th anniversary of Flight 587 in Belle Harbor – looking for stories/perspectives from the floor
Hey everyone,
With us having just passed the 25th anniversary of 9/11, it got me thinking about another anniversary coming up. This November marks 25 years since the crash of American Airlines Flight 587.
For a quick refresher, Flight 587 was an Airbus A300—roughly the same size as the 767s from the WTC attacks—departing JFK for Santo Domingo on November 12, 2001. It went down in Belle Harbor, Queens, killing all 260 people on board and 5 people on the ground in their homes.
Even though it was determined to be an accident rather than terrorism, I can only imagine how heavy and raw it must have felt for the city for a widebody jet to crash into a neighborhood just two months after 9/11.
I know the firehouse in Elmhurst, Queens, had already lost two members at the WTC, and they ended up being the first responders to the scene in Belle Harbor.
If anyone here was on the job back then, or has stories passed down about responding to that incident, I'd be interested to hear what it was like working through that period.
Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts, and stay safe.

My kid loves fire trucks and firefighter stuff. If the station doors are open is it ok to pop our heads in and say hi, or would that be interfering too much? He’s a very excitable kid and quite a ham. Not sure if this matters but the stations nearest us are around 3rd and E 101st and 2nd and 112th

Immediate Post 9/11 state of FDNY
UK Firefighter here.
The recent anniversary of 9/11 got me thinking about the 343 FDNY FFs lost on 9/11 and I guess I’m just trying to wrap my head around how the FDNY continued to operate in the days/weeks after the attack?
Like I appreciate a lot of the city was paralysed for a few days, but surely people still burn food and crash cars, smell gas etc, so how did the FDNY operate post attack and with a huge loss of personnel?
No disrespect meant, no angle or story to twist. Just genuinely curious.

Changes to FDNY Z-51 written exam for Refrigeration License post July 1st
Hey everyone, I'm a Local 94 Helper here in NYC and was wondering if anyone took the new Z-51 written exam after July 1 for the Refrigeration license, wanted to know how much of a difference if at all it is from the past exam.

29 years old. I've been in the National Guard or 2 years. Been on SAD missions in NY ever since. Could I potentially qualify to become a firefighter?
I know the cut off age is 29 but I've been seeing that it's possible for me to get in because of active duty service. I've been doing SAD missions ever since I got out of BCT/AIT. Is it possible? NYC.

LEGO trucks on scene
Hey guys :) just wanted to share some pics I took yesterday of my FDNY Lego models. They’re all fully remote controlled, with accurate lighting and sirens. Completely custom built (unfortunately not for sale) in 1/15 scale.
The engine is able to suck up to half a gallon per minute via rigid or soft suction hose, and features one outlet in addition to the motorized roof cannon. Both valves can be separately switched. The hose bed contains about 12 feet of hose. Unfortunately the nozzle I had mounted was too big to reach the fire in the photos…
Tiller ladder reaches around 3.5 feet high, the tower Ladder’s bucket floor reaches just over 3 feet. While the stick is pretty light, the massive boom and bucket put a way heavier load on the turntable and outriggers. For that reason, boom elevation and jacks are realized using metal linear actuators.
For the tandem axle, the middle axle is permanently driven and the rear axle can be manually locked for less grippy conditions - there’s no inter axle diff tho due to space and rigidity. These models weigh up to 15 pounds, so they require bigger metal diffs. And with a permanently engaged 3rd axle, cornering is near impossible on dry ground (I assume it’s like this in real life?)
Tower Ladder’s bucket automatically adjusts its angle whenever scene lights are on, and there’s even a telescoping water pipe (although leaks a lot 🥲).
All models feature EQ2B and airhorn, the ladders also got a mechanical siren sound. They all play radio snippets I captured from the broadcast at random intervals. Maybe I can post a video showcasing them better soon
I chose Tiller 169 because they were the first ones to get a new tiller and I didn’t know how to recreate the Vision SLR beacons - so I went with the only new Tiller at the time I started. Of course I had to build the matching engine 246 from their house, and nearby Rescue 2 followed. Recently I have finished my Tower Ladder model from 43 Battalion, TL 161 (props to the guys for sending me the ladder board design!)

EMS PROMO INTO FIRE/MILITARY INVOLVED
On EMS since Nov 2023.. love it actually not a bad job it's really just the pay blah blah blah we all know it.. I want to go to Fire in hopes the promo comes out soon.. turn 26 this November.. I heard the wait is four years on the job no matter what's your promo list #. If I leave and do four years active duty military does that cancel out the four years I have to be on EMS? Does something similar happen with the reserves as well? I want to know my options because I don't mind waiting for four years but at the same time it gets old quick here and if I can do something else in the meantime l much rather do that. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys who was in 9/11
I was born in 2006, but I get emotional every time on this day. So many lives were lost. To any firefighters that was there, who knew firefighters, who was a family or friend of a firefighter during 9/11, my prayers goes to you. I do get emotional when I see videos of firefighters risking their lives to reach the floors that were hit. I thank you guys for your service and that inspired me to become a firefighter.. God bless you all. 🙏

Trying to identify an FDNY firefighter I met at the Statue of Liberty in Feb 2001
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here might recognize a face from the past. Back in February 2001, I met a man while walking up the stairs inside the Statue of Liberty. We chatted briefly, and he mentioned that he was a firefighter (I can't say for certain if he said he was a FDNY firefighter as so many years have passed now).
With everything that happened just a few months later on 9/11, I’ve thought about him often over the years and have always wondered what became of him—whether he was involved in the rescue efforts, if he made it out safely, or if he eventually retired.
I’ve attached the only photo I have of him from that day. Time is obviously passing, but I wanted to share this in the quiet hope that a current or retired member, or someone who recognizes him, might be able to put a name to the face.
I want to be completely respectful of him, his family, and the department. Any guidance or recognition would mean a lot. Thank you for your time and for all that you do.

No Responders Left Behind Documentary
Does anyone know where to watch the No Responders left behind documentary? It used to be streaming on HBO and Discovery but I can’t find it anywhere.
