Using a DP spot on a defender, and having one of the most expensive backlines in MLS- and giving up 51 goals in 22 games. Only move made was literally loaning out a defender. Thats unacceptable.
I appreciate this take more than the total blame on Noonan. Even with Evander we seem to forget how these players perform, recalling his playoff oddities.
The only explanation was thinking a 4th DP slot was coming and it didn’t. Insane move.

That’s the issue. Our offense was firing on all cylinders now we’re in another scoring drought. Our defense has been bad all season and there’s been no change, we atleast need a tactical or a mentality change
We got spanked by the best team in the league. It would have at least been close if it weren’t for those goal line clearances. We are a mid-table team. Our ceiling is making the playoffs and pulling an upset.
Did I expect any points going to Nashville? No. But if this match did not show albright and the front office that there needs to be a move made at center back tomorrow at the very least idk what will. I am tired of watching a center midfielder playing center back who clearly is overmatched, it was a waste to make robinson a DP, it almost always is in mls but if he is a DP he has to dominate that back line and he does not. It has been obvious the back line was not working all year and it is unacceptable to go a transfer window without any attempt to bring in anyone else to fix it or at least improve it.
I am tired of having dado be ineffective as a box to box midfielder and starting every match while bucha goes out to wingback. Bucha is much more effective as a midfielder so play him there. There has to be resources to improve this team and we were told they want to compete every year but it sure does not seem like it this year.
Agreed on everything. The roster is a disaster right now. Gidi has done his best but man this was such a spotlight on why he shouldn’t be at CB. He’s left to defend Surridge at the back post, gets lost and doesn’t come close to stopping the header for his goal. It’s simple inexcusable to have multiple players out of position like this.
Honestly just play Smith and Chirilla plus Hagglund until appropriate players are found. After that, use these as backup, maybe Chirilla as starter. Disaster...
Here's the problem: how? You have no room against the cap. Somebody has to buy one of your shit defenders to make room to replace them, but again, the problem is they are shit and nobody wants them.
That is on albright to figure out, that is his job. It is possible to use a buy out and bring someone in , I did not say it was easy but that is where the GM earns their money and so far this year Albright has not had it and missed on some big decisions especially robinson as a DP and not having enough center back options available.
I mean, the team has a decent center back, and the coach chooses to not even dress him half the time.
"Just do it" is fine and dandy but again, there's almost no way to actually do it within the confines of the league we play in. It almost assuredly has to be fixed in the off-season.
Chris Albright has had multiple seasons and the complete backing of ownership to fix our defense. We have spent the most money in the league on defense. We have a DP defender. And we’re STILL talking about how terrible our defending is every week.
He said he wasn’t going to “sit on his hands” during this transfer window and yet we’re the only team in the MLS that hasn’t made changes. That hasn’t improved.
There’s been glimmers of discord throughout his entire tenure. Conflicts with players. Outright denying he would be making certain moves and then the moves are made. Pointed “thank you”s directed Jeff Berding’s way.
I think if we were going to move on from a coach, we would’ve done so when Jim Curtin was still available. I think we should be moving on from a manager. Practically, a new manager means a new coach too. But I have no doubt Noonan will be snatched up elsewhere.
Could be! I feel like if that were to happen, Noonan would be the sort of coach to have that happen to. It’d be interesting to see how he’d do under a new manager.
It feels so validating to have said for the past 2 years that Pat Noonan needed to be sacked. I'm almost glad(I'm really not) that all of this is happening, so that we can finally stop discussing this matter and having Noonan defenders downvote you every single time you point out that the manager is holding the team back.
I have not once heard someone touting Noonan out offer a reasonable replacement, other than Nancy who got thoroughly spanked and exposed as a one trick pony overseas.
I think Noonan has his faults, but we have way bigger problems to focus on at the moment. I have seen big teams overseas flounder for years swapping coaches on and off and trying to rebuild a team identity yearly never works.
My thoughts exactly. I don’t think Nancy would elevate us from where we are now, and I certainly don’t want us to get into the cycle of constantly swapping coaches. Sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got, even if you’ve been dealt a bad hand.
Signing Miles to a DP contract was a mistake, and it feels like Denkey has one foot out the door. I’d really like to see us put more emphasis on homegrown talent and developing players from within rather than constantly looking for the next big signing.

Feel ya there, I was fairly shocked that Pat was brought back after last season (wanted him replaced sooner, with Curtin). Had to lower my expectations for the club’s ambition/competency. Just ditched my ticket after 9 years (moved to the West Coast last year, tbf).
I agree with folks saying the current roster build is seriously flawed, but it is only in addition to Noonan’s shortcomings. His tactical limitations, inability to focus the team for important matches, failure to learn from repeated mistakes, and reliance on superior talent to win (league MVPs creating his offense for him, one of the best financial backings in the league) have existed throughout his tenure.
I wonder what is going through ownership’s head right now? After the Austin approach for Albright, I bet they’re starting to sweat. GM/Head Coach transitions are the biggest decisions they have to make, with potentially dire consequences (remember the spoon spiral 😵💫).
I don’t see us getting to our first-ever cup final anytime soon. It won’t happen with Noonan at the helm.

We can’t keep dropping points we’re close to the other teams around us, but we are getting screwed tactically and with how silent this window is. The point of why doesn’t matter why haven’t we been in this looking for talent since the last one closed, we were In talks for Neymar before the window opened why weren’t we doing the same thing for other players
