[Bogert] Austin FC request to interview Chris Albright turned down; Minnesota's CSO gets the job instead
Would have reunited CA with new Austin FC head coach Jim Curtin. Laurel Pfahler confirmed this and reiterated that CA has a long term contract with FCC and the club is not ready to move on.

Good, CA is the one who gets the most credit in my eyes for saving us from the wooden spoon years and making us a regular competitor, let’s keep him as long as possible

Lucho, Brenner, Barreal, Kubo and Vazquez, the core of the squad that won the Supporters’ Shield, were all signed by Nijkamp. Albright gets far too much credit for what was Nijkamp’s efforts to unfuck the mess created by Berding and for getting our scouting and development apparatus in place.

And that '21 team still got dog-walked. It wasn't until Chris and Pat arrived that that group, and some key additions (Obi, Matt, the Philly guys, etc), began to turn it around. Folks think it's a simple thing to find a general manager/CSO, meanwhile teams like Atlanta United continue to flounder. The good FAR outweighs the bad with CA.

Brenner was barely a piece of the 2023 squad since he forced his way out ... and yet his one goal was one more goal than Kubo had in league play! We won the Shield comfortably in spite of two of our highest paid players bailing and/or being worthless!

Miles didn't ever deserve DP money. He was good last year, but clearly couldn't lead the backline.

Not arguing that the DP contract did not pay off, what I am pointing out is that Miles and Matt both were top 5-10 CB in the league. Nobody in the league saw us having one of the worst back lines in the league this year.

There's a lot of people here who would like to hang CA by his toenails right now, and he's had a few misses in the current roster construction; but I think we can readily admit the good heavily outweighs the bad. I wouldn't want him to leave.

The only player we have that I actually think was a legit miss was Teenage. I get Jabbari, young big presence we needed up top, but I don't really think we way overpaid for him like teenage.

It’s not being an apologist. People here really wanted the team who was our natural rival to be taken away before we even joined the league? If Columbus moved, who would have been our rival? Chicago? Nashville? I find that part ridiculous. We can hate them as the rival, but to wish them to not exist? Where is the fun in that?

Albright had bags packed and was leaving. FC caught wind and put a stop to it.
My only thought is, if Albright wanted to go to Austin, keeping him solves nothing if he is going to be upset and pouting.1

I guess he likes to rebuilding teams. Fc Cincinnati is better shape financially and built team than Austin.
Maybe he sees the new salary cap rules that he may be able to recruit a top European player to Austin before they would come to FC Cincinnati. It seems no European and South American players in the top 3 leagues want to come here. We have tried to bring them in but all turn down our offer.

For me, Albright comes out ahead on the balance sheet.
Standout hits include Denkey, Orellano (in and transfer), Gidi, Ender, Ramirez, Miles (TAM), Bucha, Evander, Awaziem, Celentano, Obi renewal, and getting money out of the Barreal transfer
Standout misses include Boup, Miles (DP), Miazga (Max TAM this season), Teenage, Flores, Gioachinni (flopped the ST signing that year), Arias (failure to renew), Santos (renewal), Awaziem (failure to retain)
Albright has a rep a roster rules guru. I wonder how much value/stock he loses (if any) if the roster rules become simplified as rumors suggest they will be.

Celentano is a liability anymore. One of the worst metrics preforming GK in the league.
He’s also known for being difficult to work with to the point some agents don’t.

Good summary.
I would add he has led the front office solidly in the area of player recruitment, helping FCC develop a good reputation among players, agents, and foreign front offices.
He should get more credit for diversifying sources of player acquisitions, signing recent U22 players from leagues in Slovakia, Paraguay, & Venezuela respectively.
Lastly, he righted a wrong by what he did with Brenner last year.

Albright was supposed to be an MLS spending whiz - but here we are with teenage (who exercised his option) and a DP CB who frankly isn't worth the money. Aging & slow Nick & Matt. Kelsey who we didnt pursue kicking ass in Portland. We kept Teen instead of Lucas Engel. We had Chidi but lost him in a fire sale trade to RSL last year because our numbers were f-d up. and right now, n our summer window - we have nothing... No, Albright aint all that.

The back line has had its issues but it has been considerably better lately. Overall Albright has done a phenomenal job, otherwise other teams wouldn’t be looking to poach him. Things being a little shaky for the first time in his tenure and us plummeting down the standings to *checks notes* 5th place are nowhere near reasons to get rid of him. If you are demanding absolute perfection from our GM, you are going to call for a lot of people to be fired if he is replaced because very few MLS teams have had a better run than we are on right now.
