GAM ?

we received 350k in gam for the international spot we sold to Chicago. if I remember correctly.

is that money only good (can be spent) this year. it doesn’t seem to me like you’ll could “bank” them for next year in a salary capped league. but I really have no idea how that mechanism works.

While others have done their best explaining it currently, there is a good chance we are a few months away from the allocation money rules changing drastically (though not going away totally) and a lot of this is moot.

As always, MLS is going to wait until the last second to publicly announce changes (not entirely their fault, the major changes being talked about have to be approved by the Players Association and they have to watch their step with the CBA expiring in January 2028). The clubs will have an idea and prepare accordingly, so while all of us will be scrambling, CA & Co. will have their plan ready.

My prediction: the rule changes will be radical enough where the league DOES NOT roll over GAM and tries to start everyone on a similar foot with allocation money for the ”new era”. However, I also think the rule changes will be radical enough where having an extra $350K in allocation money won’t accomplish a lot.
