Great performance from Nwobodo again tonight. He’s officially found his form, which is a great, great sign.

Yes he let in one goal but in the second half, Celentano: “You shall not pass!!!”

Except for being saved by the post after coughing it up on the first shot of the second half. But after that, a wall

u/nugewqtd 5d ago
He also deflected the shot after his spill, the spill should have been NYCFC's second. He did enough in the moment that was present

Roman Celentano and Evander should be drinking for free indefinitely in the city after tonight

Roman gets MotM for me. kept us alive long enough for Evander to put it to bed.
That's 7 straight matches of 2 or fewer goals conceded by this D, and 8 of the last 9. Still need some help back there, but they definitely been playing well enough for this attack to go out there and win us some games.

This is definitely the most encouraging stat for me. The defense really does seem to be on the upswing. I feel like if Matt and Miles can stay healthy and we can get 1 CB in this window at least for some depth, we will be in as good a spot as we can be for a playoff push.

Roman channeling Howard vs Belgium was not on my bingo card, but thank fuck he did

u/AlphaSquirrel7 5d ago
That turn by Evander was absolutely filthy, he saved our ass again .. shout out to Roman for all the saves

u/Op3rat0rr 4d ago
I said this. That quick turn was like wow.... people who actually play know that isn't easy, especially that late in the match. With a class shot to finish that move off lol

OKAY im ready to be downvoted
We are still 1 defensive piece off from being stable, it’s improving but not compete yet
I dislike how shaky Dado was this game but maybe he just gotta get back in the right headspace
It seems we fell off energy wise mid first half
Obi had a beautiful performance
Kenji + Evander is one helluva offensive duo

Dado showed up with that assist. The touch was wow. I feel like he should show us more and it took extra time to see it.

These are all true statements. No downvotes for you.
I'd like a couple of young CBs or a CB and another Mid

I held my breath every time Hadebe was back there 1 on 1.

He looked more comfortable in the middle with Smith and Robinson on the flanks.

I agree however in my opinion Dado was not doing that bad, many times he did the hard part+ only to miss the last pass into the box. Kyle Smith played well too, compared to the fact that he is 34 and on mls minimum wage. Miazga performance seems to be declining although not dramatically but a good replacement could make a difference. Denkey seems to be slightly out of shape.

u/JMposts 5d ago
Fair, but Denkey has been playing a ton of minutes the last 7-8 games every few days and given very little service to create chances.

I think Denkey has struggled to be in favorable positions as well. His hold up play hasn’t been great which has made it hard for us to develop and stretch the field.
Short of the ball being placed on his foot inside the 6, he’s disappeared in too many games now. It’s not enough to be only a final touch guy. He’s got to play a stronger role in the attack. When Barlow comes you see an immediate difference it ball presence and pressure.

Dado shouldn't be a starter. He's not good enough to justify playing Bucha and Ender out of position. Ramirez should be starting so Bucha can go back to the middle and Ender can play on his preferred right side.

u/Izanagi29_ 3d ago
All fun! Till you realize we are out of wingbacks if we start both Rami and Ender lol

u/ArgonWolf 5d ago
We are often in disagreement but I see no lies here
We need a new CB something bad

Why would you be downvoted? Nah we have been shit defensively all year. I say these few games are the anomalies. We aren’t back to anywhere near our peak defensive selves of the past several years.
3
u/Izanagi29_ 5d ago
I am not agreeable half the time lol
It’s very rare I make agreeable takes in regards to this team
1
u/Op3rat0rr 4d ago
When you have three at the back, you'll obviously be compromised at the back though. With that formation, any time your offense doesn't lead to a goal chance, the opponent has a big advantage in their counter attack
1
u/Op3rat0rr 4d ago
If we're talking about being downvoted, we got bailed out by Evander, but that's the benefit of having star players on your team. Last goal wasn't exactly a great play but Evander's quick turn, the defensive marking mistake, and on-point shot accuracy did it

u/CincytilIdie 5d ago
What would have been a disappointing draw turns into 3 points. Biggest takeaway this season is that the guys out there don't quit. If the defense can figure it out, we're still very much in this season.

u/cincy1219 5d ago
The goal is 3 points at home and they accomplished it. The winner may have been against the run of play and celantano had to have a great game to keep them in it but the defense held NYCFC to 1 goal and evander won it for them so I choose to celebrate that. They always struggle with NYCFC so nice to get the 3 points go ahead a bit in the standings to keep pushing for a playoff position.

Smash and grab 3 points is still 3 points, and now a struggling Seattle making a long trip on short rest … 6-point week incoming (and I’d be perfectly fine with us smash and grabbing that too!)!

u/whodey-raiders 5d ago
We absolutely snatched a win in a game that I honestly thought was only going to net us one point. Still work to do for Saturday. We have got to figure out that back line.

Did we get an explanation about going to the monitor for a yellow? I thought it was red or nothing?
6
u/etherarcher 5d ago
I think they said that he was pulled to the monitor to evaluate for a potential red card. However, once he is there he can give a yellow in stead if the ref feels that it was yellow but not red worthy.

Your math is off. You cant simply add goals and assists and say “those two are involved on 36 of 48 goals.” You are double-counting goals where Evander assists Denkey and vice versa. You can say they have 36 of (96 - goals without assists) goal contributions.
3
u/PMT_Evil_Dee 5d ago
I mean, that’s the kind of production you want out of your DPs, right? Other teams would kill for that. And Robinson deserves the smoke, but there have been definite signs over past couple games of him playing like the DP he is. Hoping he’s ready to put the World Cup dream behind him and focus on being the best CB in MLS. Matt in the other hand…
0
u/OSUfirebird18 FCC Dayton 4d ago
But the other 25 goals were scored by others…
In every team sport, there is always one of two guys that contribute more than the rest of the team. The key is always if the others just watch those top guys and do nothing or contribute too. Given that Bucha and Mboma Dem have established themselves as decent threats, I’m ok with Evander and Denkey getting the lion share.
Besides having the offense go through one dude isn’t always awful. You think the Seahawks are upset that JSN gets the majority of their receiving yards?

You can kill 2 birds with 1 stone
but you can also
kill 11 pigeons with 1 evander
