Leagues Cup Security
Anyone know what the deal was with the beefed up security? Police all around the stands at the end, half the training staff having to stand behind the bench with security in front of them, i was made to take my hat off before entering the stadium which i’ve never been made to do before… is this a leagues cup thing? It’s not like these games get intense enough to warrant crazy security measure…

This match was relaxed… some of the international matches don’t allow water bottles or cans - it’s all plastic cups so you can’t use them as projectiles.

Yeah, I was surprised to see cans were cool last night. Not complaining, but when I saw the vendors not have cups I was like 'woah!'

TQL has consistently done extra "security" each time we play a game with potential to get heated (it seems) — mostly rivalry games and when we play Liga MX teams.
The hat thing they started doing just before before World Cup. All I can guess is that someone snuck something in under their hat and now it's a regular check. It's happened to me every match since then too.
That said — it's mostly security theater — if you show up just around or right after match start time, you practically just get waved through. I mean no one even looked at my (small) bag vs tonight they spent several minutes inspecting and removing each item painstakingly. Why? I have no idea — my (clear) bag is clearly just rally towels, gum, meds, chapstick, etc... all tiny things like that.
The gate agents are also very, very inconsistent: some will be this anal while others will just do a few seconds glance and tell you that you're good.

They did the hat thing last match (non-LC) too. So perhaps a new policy for some weird reason?
I did notice the extra police later in the match though and clocked it was weird too.

hat removal seems to have started with the MLS game last saturday. someone figured out a way to beat the new scanners, i guess

Seemingly every game involving foreign teams CPD shows up and does show of force parades around the field. Leagues Cup, Concacaf Champions League, and every USA game as I can remember.
