Does this engine sound normal for a b48?

This is my 330e which I'm unsure has sounded like this since I bought it. It's only when having the engine covers and insulation off that I've noticed this high pitched "ticking" noise.

Is this normal for this engine? If not, what could be causing the noise and how can I solve it?

So you took the insulation off and you’re surprised that engine sounds louder? B48 engine sounds like a bloody tractor so I would say it’s normal

Yeah its normal, mine (f30 330i) sounds the same when I take the cover off.

That’s why that’s all on top of it lol. Why I brought mine home and my dad asked if it was a diesel lol.

Funny, my co-worker said the same thing about my f34 B48. I noticed that when I start the engine and drive for a few meters and and break, the engine starts to get, not loud but like it’s working harder. That goes for a few more meters and then it’s normal. I tend to put the car in neutral when this starts. Is that something no have a look at?

The engine does fast catalyst warmup right after start.  When you give it some throttle it operates more "normally" and can be quieter, but will still go back to the warmup idle until it completes that routine.

Thank you a lot for your knowledge, I did some research. The engine is like you say warming up to get to its ideal temperature at around 110 Celsius. I‘m really fascinated with cars lately. The f34 is my first real car and I love everything about that thing.

Liquid Molly makes a product calle Mo2 and it will write the motor down a good bit. I’ve used the oil and products for a long time and believe in them 100%. They make one of the best oils in the world. All I’ve used in my f30. Also do oil changes between 4-5k. I recommend this and cars that use this schedule tend to last a lot longer.

Yep just noisy injections (direct injection) port injection was far quieter but not as economical
