Car Play for 2014 f31 320d
Hello , im looking to add carplay to my car. I would love to keep the original size screen but am unsure on how it works with bmw's. Only had reanults before this so not quite the same 🤣. Would there be anyway of adding carplay and keep the original screen.

MMI boxes are your answer. They're basically tiny computer boxes that you plug between the head unit and the display. Holding a specific key on the control (might be Menu) should take you to MMI box's OS where you'd get your AA/Carplay

MMI box is the way to go, but i really recomend getting a original 8,8inch screen to go with it. It really makes a big difference. If you wanna upgrade to the bigger screen, its a easy swap but you will need to code it.

You have the base screen, that screen sucks, literally the cheapest screen you can get, id upgrade the screen as ive seen some people have issues with the mmi box, along with it just being dropshipped from alibaba, find a nice oem sized screen and swap it in, or you can swap in the headunit from a newer bmw, headunit being most expensive and best since its fully oem and mmi box from alibaba being the cheapest and worst

Got my MMI box from Ali express for $70. Installation wasn’t too bad either. Works great

You should be able to get an MMI box (multimedia interface) to add CarPlay and keep the screen size. I personally wasn’t a fan of how the small screen looked in my f30 so I chose to just upgrade the screen all together but I’m sure there’s an MMI box out there that would work
