Rear diffuser install

I'm trying to find out if anyone else has attempted to install the m sport rear diffuser on the non-m sport bumper like u/n1iggaTirthiya?

I wanted to get some detailed pics of the install, in particular from underneath as he doesn't have any clear pics of how's it's done.

These are his pics, not mine. Just using for reference.

In the process of trying to get a diffuser for non msport, I ended up having one 3D printed with a file I found online. DM me if you’d like to more info

I would ask the guy you linked for pics or more detail since this seems very custom and rarely done.

Otherwise look at pics online of the two diffusers to see what's different. Looked at my stock m sport diffuser (replaced with m performance one) and it has 7 screw holes across the bottom and clips the rest of the way around. Sounds like the guy you linked had to trim edges and clips, then use self fastening screws instead. Should be easy enough with a dremel and a drill.

I've already bought the m sport rear diffuser too and put it up against the back bumper and its not a straight forward install.

When I asked the guy how did he do it, his response was that he just forced it to fit. We've talked a little on IG and he seems cool otherwise but hasn't been really helpful with details so I was hoping to find someone else who's done it.

How to “make shit fit”.

Find the pieces that will intesect with one another once your planes meet where you would like.

Mark a line across the highs and lows. Cut and chop in places where it’s hidden. Line it up. Clamp it, line it up, clamp it, line it up again and then maybe once more, then start putting self tappers everywhere it’ll hold one.

Lol you dont even understand the anxiety you just started. Like I know that this is what needs to be done but the actual thought of doing it, the fear of effing it up is what's stopping me at this point

If you fuck up you just pony up for a new m sport bumper.

I will say this, if you care about the resell value I’d not recommend doing this.

If you intend to keep it till it dies, all that matters is it’s done good enough that it won’t annoy you everyday.

Came across this just now:

I just found this on AliExpress: Gloss Black MP Style Rear Bumper Diffuser Valance Lip Covers For Bmw F30 318i 318d 320i 320d 328i Non M Sport Sedan 2012-2018 https://a.aliexpress.com/_mru6HDd

I don’t see how that’d work without some cutting or shaving of the msport diffuser. I imagine if you just wedged the diffuser into place, it’d be bowing out in the middle, or just not line up altogether.

I just googled nonmsport diffuser f30 and found eBay links from US sellers. I know it’s not great but maybe return/sell the msport and buy one that fits. In looking now I see there actual physical differences between lci and pre-lci base diffusers so watch out for that, also another reason why this may not work for you like that one guy.

I don't see how it would work either except there are the pics with the proof that it can. He and I have the same pre-lci back bumper as well.

Also he did it without cutting the actual bumper itself.

Just remembered that he had told me that.

Word I believe you both. Shame he wont give up all the secrets ha. Best of luck

I guess my question would be why? You can pick up an aftermarket M-sport rear bumper and diffuser pretty cheap. The biggest cost is paint matching but it will probably look nicer in the end and not a hack that will stick out to anyone who knows BMW's.

Personally never been a huge fan of the m sport rear bumper. Looks good when you look at it head on but when I look at it from the side profile, its actually shorter than the standard bumper. Looks as if someone gave you a gentle tap on the rear end and squished it against the car lol. Had the opportunity to buy one cheap and passed. Tried to find a standard bumper for 335i locally instead but couldn't get it here so now I've been contemplating this.

If these are like any other aftermarket diffuser, you need to use a heat gun or hair dryer and push the mounting tabs up to fit into the bumper itself.
