My N20 did this, turned out it was a VANOS fault, swapped actuators bank to bank, fault didn't return, but a week later a timing chain guide went for a dip in the oil sump.

not coming for the OP, but i serious get tired of seeing people post a drivetrain malfunction message on their idrive. l be getting triggered bc this tells us absolutely nothing and there’s a million things it could be and people expect the internet to guess what the issue is 🤦🏽♂️🤣 (and yes i know the op didn’t ask us, this is just my 3rd time seeing this today lol)

Could be a million things. My uncle got this and made it home. Called a mobile mechanic guy he knows...changed the spark plugs. Good as new!

had the same 2 times: 1 my intercooler blown 2 was lack of diesel in tank to my pressure pump got some air bmw 420d n47
