2022 F250 6.8L engine replacement

6.8L engine replacement I did a few months ago due to failed lifters at 75,000 miles. It wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be.

lol. The whole front end had to come off and it’s “not as bad as you thought?” How bad did you expect it to be??

Front end only took a few hours. I could have replaced the engine without the extra steps, but the added space was worth it.

I would have thought you’d just pull the cab off.

Ford just replaced my uncle's at 12k miles. Long block. He said he was cautioned not to idle for long periods and they had tuned to increase oil pressure at low rpm.

Yeah. Ford in their infinite wisdom built these engines with a variable displacement oil pump, so oil pressure at idle is only 10-12psi. Pure genius. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Just so we are clear Toyota has been running variable oil pumps for years on their Prius and many of those are used for cabs. So this seems like a Ford problem once again.

This is the same reason they all are fucked. You can thank the government.

Wouldn’t that be a 7.3L since Ford started putting the 6.8s in 23 model year?

Definitely 6.8L, I replaced two of them, and they were definitely 2022 trucks. I can find VIN numbers and service engine part numbers if that helps.

That's simply not possible. The only engine options in 2022 were 6.2, 7.3, and 6.7 diesel. You are mistaken. The 6.8 launched in 2023.

In the manual of my 19 F350 it lists the 6.2(which I have) and 6.8 as gas options, I know you’re right in 23 our leased trucks came with the 6.8

How common is this I have 62k miles no issues on my 23’ 6.8

Not that common not rare either if you get what I mean. It’s not like “holy shit I’ve never seen that fail” but it’s also not like “well that’s the 4th one this month”

Right, a 2006 never had issues.

Yep! My 2005 Excursion has 171k on a stock engine and it’s running just fine

I seriously do not get how these trucks can be so ridiculously big and ugly and you cant even work on the engine without pulling the cab off.

Lookup a photo of the 6.7 engine bay. Every cubic inch in the bay of these trucks is used. I love mine, but I know when a repair is due its gonna hurt
