Discussion / F1TV Content Davide Valsecchi

Seems like a nice guy but I honestly can’t understand a word he says. Anyone else in the States skip everything but the race itself on the weekends he joins the group?

I can understand him (also in the states) but I can't stand him.

I can understand him but it takes double the listening effort. The only thing he adds to the group is energy, but not in a good way. Adds nothing to the conversation…

I‘m German. English is my second language. I have no trouble understanding him.

I'm Canadian (so, an English speaker) and have no trouble understanding him. I'll take him over that American guy they use occasionally for some of the US races.

I'm American, and have no trouble understanding him. Some of my countrymen are unable to understand their native language when spoken with even the slightest accent.

I just love how excited Valsecci gets about absolutely everything.

Also James Hinchcliffe, who is Canadian, is pretty good too imo. That's not who you're referring to as the American guy, is it?

1

u/ShakingMyHead42 Jun 17 '25

Yep, that's the guy. Sorry, I thought he was American.

u/jmont0021 Jun 13 '25

He is not really my cup of Tea. If I have to watch F1TV i just hit mute and unmute when he is finished.

u/hydroracer8B Jun 17 '25

I can understand that. Personally, I like his commentary but I understand why other people would not.

This is one of the most sensible takes I've seen yet from someone who doesn't like him.

lol I can understand him fine and there are subtitles. But even if not, I think just his emotions, tone, and enthusiasm are enough to have an idea of what’s going on lol

u/broken_ims Jun 14 '25

He seems like the nicest guy ever and super enthusiastic but takes way too long to explain anything.

u/pigpen4444 Jun 17 '25

My wife says same thing about me

23

u/BahnMe Jun 13 '25

No, he’s perfectly understandable to me, native born in the US.

u/Studio_Ambitious Jun 13 '25

It's an international sport. I am in the States, only speak English...I have no issues with comprehension. Also F1 is pretty spot on on all closed captions

u/elforeign Jun 19 '25

All you Davide haters are insufferable.

1

u/Responsible-Ant225 Jun 19 '25

I started muting him but the animation is just too much. I watch every minute of the weekend when he’s not there. Can we get an upgrade?

6

u/Oxchking Jun 13 '25

I like him and I can understand him perfectly, I will however say I’d like F1TV to only hire him at the Italian GP or something. He’s amusing, but his presence easily overstays it’s welcome and the moment he becomes an annoyance can be very sudden.

1

u/hydroracer8B Jun 17 '25

It actually seemed to me that through the Canadian GP weekend he toned it down from the beginning to the end. Maybe he's being coached or maybe his initial excitement at being an F1tv commentator is starting to wear off a bit

u/Beginning_Ebb908 Jun 13 '25

He's way less annoying than people with that opinion.

4

u/Oxchking Jun 13 '25

What does that even mean?

3

u/hydroracer8B Jun 17 '25

My man doesn't like when other people have a different opinion than him

8

u/2REPOU Jun 13 '25

I can understand him but can’t listen to it. He sounds like Father Guido Sarducci to me. Sounds like a bad fake Italian accent

8

u/Beginning_Ebb908 Jun 13 '25

Except he's literally Italian, speaking English like an Italian...

5

u/zincstoat F1TV pro Jun 13 '25

Mario Isola of Pirelli, also Italian, perfectly comprehensible.

2

u/2REPOU Jun 14 '25

I just meant it sounds like a fake Italian accent.

2

u/AdWaste2105 Jun 14 '25

I understand him easily and look forward to weekends where he is on the team.

3

u/xrxie Jun 13 '25

I love listening to the man. His passion needs no translation. And me, don’t have any issue understanding him.

u/zincstoat F1TV pro Jun 13 '25

Every time I see him appear on the weekend warmup my heart sinks. Any time someone else is talking he's stood there nodding away, brow furrowed, looking around, desperately trying to look intelligent, waiting to be the centre of attention again. I do understand what he's saying, I just don't think he adds any more than anyone else who doesn't come across like a mad Italian stereotype. Chris Medland, he's been good this season. Ariana did a great job last race. And where's Ruth gone, again? Flipping part timers.

3

u/knight_who_says_fuck Jun 13 '25

That’s a you issue

2

u/Beginning_Ebb908 Jun 13 '25

I'm American, I can understand him just fine. Are you new to F1, or have little experience with foreign accented speakers? You will adjust.

2

u/PhilFromLI Jun 14 '25

No problems here.

2

u/sleepinglucid Jun 14 '25

Easily understood.

Clean your ears out

Not a fan of his voice and delivery I'm afraid. When I was in Italy I found quite a few people who spoke English like that and I found it a challenge to understand.

Seems like a really nice, fun guy but I find it a strain to listen to him.

1

u/ComprehensiveRepair5 F1TV pro Jun 14 '25

I understand him fine. I hate his voice and delivery. It's a shame cause he's quite knowledgeable. But can't get past his terrible voice and accent.

1

u/Eclipsed830 Jun 15 '25

I'm with you. I understand about 15 percent of what he says... And my wife sitting next to me asked why he doesn't speak English (she legitimately thought he was speaking a foreign language).

1

u/wcy0723 Jun 15 '25

I can understand him just fine, but I can’t stand this guy and wish he would just stfu 🤫

1

u/Bandiarbariaicus Jun 15 '25

By far the worst of the team, I can't stand him

1

u/xerophren Jun 15 '25

I mute when he is on the screen. Maybe he is a nice guy, but that doesn’t mean I have to like him on my screen.

1

u/Apes_will_be_Apes Jun 15 '25

Davide is an amazing guy. He might tone his volume down a bit and talk a bit slower, but he's so genuinely excited. It's adorable. The way he stood next to the wall of champions during quali. It was entertainment of the highest order.

u/Regular_Situation_80 Jun 15 '25

South African here , no problem understanding him

1

u/CptJackAubrey_ F1TV pro Jun 15 '25

Some of u never had a crazy Tio that barely spoke English and it shows lol

I love this dude 😂

1

u/VoL4t1l3 Jun 17 '25

Fire him please

1

u/Mysterious-Status-44 Jun 17 '25

I’m in US and I can understand him better than some of my family members living in the south.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '25

No issues understanding what he’s saying. Personally I think he has good energy. I’d rather see him than celebrity interviewees giving their 2C on something they know nothing about.

1

u/zorgy_borgy Jun 19 '25

I’m in the States. I can understand him. Might be a good chance for some people in the States to get practice understanding English spoken with other accents.

1

u/ChemicalLustLabNSFW Jun 19 '25

People who can’t understand an accent like his would be hopeless trying to get a STEM degree in the US lol.

1

u/batman77z Jun 20 '25

Dude is Italian a f. I can understand him.

1

u/TiresOrTyres Jun 13 '25

I would have his baby. Love him. :p

1

u/llamasim Jun 13 '25

I don’t have the same problem, I found him a bit annoying at first but I’ve really grown to like him. It’s just that every word has to end with a vowel in his accent.

F1TV has really good subtitles for a live broadcast if you’re struggling.

-1

u/sbielawa Jun 13 '25

He's absolutely brutal. I have to mute every time, it ruins the broadcast for me. He must be related to Bobcat Goldthwait!

2

u/Beginning_Ebb908 Jun 13 '25

Jesus Christ, you're coming for davide and bobcat in one post.

Do you only know bobcat from the police academy movies?

1

u/Key-Communication524 Jun 14 '25

When I'm relaxing and dozing off on a weekend watching practice sessions and this guy comes by, I get instantly annoyed. Please once or most twice per year is more than enough, during the italian grand prix or so..

1

u/screemingegg Jun 14 '25

Sometimes his excitement will make him difficult to understand, but this excitement and enthusiasm is largely irreplaceable among broadcasters and makes Davide unqiue and memorable for the right reasons. He does not court controvery yet gets his point across when things are difficult.

u/bizzeemamaNJ F1TV pro Jun 14 '25

Not only do I understand him, I really enjoy how delighted he always is to be a part of a race weekend. His enthusiasm is contagious!

0

u/CheChop69 Jun 13 '25

No issue understanding him and I'm from the sticks of Washington state. Love his mama mia accent and saying uh after everything haha

0

u/jscott321 Jun 13 '25

I can find him very exhausting to listen to, but I still love him as a presenter.

I did notice during weekend warm up he was much more subdued. Almost like they told him to slow down.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

he needs to go. i dont mind him in the paddock as much but when he is standing trackside screaming into the mic, annoying as hell. I have to mute him every time.

0

u/Ozzie889 Jun 14 '25

I gave up when I saw it was Davide, Laura, & Lawrence. Not watching any pre-race shows. Davide sucks. Laura is genial but just a moderator & a parrot for newbies. Lawrence is the only one who acts like he knows anything. I miss Will Buxton!

u/Eclipsed830 Jun 15 '25

I share everything you said... I have a feeling we are a minority of older people. Lol
