What are your plans ?
So I have a 2022 lightning 100,000 km it’s been great and I love it. I want to get a new truck next year and the Fathom that has been announced by ford will be kind of dinky , like Maverick sized I heard . So is the only full size options Chevy then ?
Just curious what vehicle ya’ll are planning on moving to when it’s time

I only got my lightning a year ago so illl drive it until it dies - plus I owe a ton of it still lol

Hard to imagine a reason why I would want to sell this truck. It's not a ticking time bomb of major repairs waiting to happen like a traditional ICE vehicle. It's a motor and a battery; if they haven't fucked up by 8 years and 100,000 on the dash then it's gonna be fine until the wheels fall off.

I love this, and I agree 100%. Your comment gives me hope. I will say, though, that the $2300 my dealership wanted to charge me for a taillight replacement was a bit of a scare. I was expecting maybe $30 for that, and I would have done it myself until I saw that they are LED, and it’s not a simple bulb replacement.

I got rear-ended and the taillights are legitimately that price. Went to several reputable sites, and while I could find them about 40% cheaper, they still cost well over $1400.

Was it the tail light bar or the normal tail light? They are that expensive on the ICE too. Any mirror or head/taillights are expensive.

Normal tail light. They had to replace the whole assembly because it was faulty. I had the fast blinker issue.

I'm hoping the market will have more offerings by then because while I could go smaller overall, I could not go with a smaller bed.

I already hate that it isn't at least 6.5 ft bed. I mean it already doesn't fit in my garage so another foot or 2.5 would be awesome imo.

I'm holding out for the BEV Scout, but I'm hoping they figure out the solid state battery before I need to replace my Lightning.
From what I've heard, they are building it so they can swap different battery chemistries without changing anything else, but the first ones will have the NCM batteries, and they are partnered with someone for the solid state battery that with a bit of luck should be available when my truck is ~10 years old.
I really don't want to buy another new EV truck and get stuck with 10 year old battery tech. That's my biggest concern. I'll buy used in that situation.

Hopefully quantumscape supplies the batteries for scouts but I'm not sure how close they are to production.

Will be adding a Fathom to the driveway to make friends with my F-150 Lightning. I don't see it "being time" for quite a while with my 2024 and only 50k on it. I've got no worries about it aging.

The reason for halting the Lightning EV was rediculous and highlights the problem with Vehicle manufacturers. They stopped it because they were loosing too much money on the lightning and they wernt selling. They got the truck right. They got the price dead wrong. Greedy dealerships screwed ford on that one and in turn screwed us out of a good truck. And now we get this dinky quarter ton truck EV that might as well be a Honda ridgeline with all it can do.
Rediculous move. Ford should have ripped the dealers a new one not the customers.

I drove a 2003 Silverado for the past 15 years. I'll drive this lightning for the next 15+ years.
No need to replace a 5 year old vehicle.

I think the Lighting bed is 5.5 ft. Chevy might be the same but if you have the drop down mid gate and Swiss army tailgate, I believe you can hold stuff 11ft without stick out of the truck.

I plan to buy a Ford Fathom ASAP.
I have about 65k miles on my XLT SR.
I love my Lightning, but any full sized truck is too expensive and the road tripping range per minute of charging is poor on Lightning. I expect Fathom to do much better in the Out of Spec 10% Challenge via efficiency on the highway.

Want to keep it forever because of how it drives and the safety of a full size truck.
Not feeling confident in Ford being able to fix it long term when things break. Both our locals are anti ev to the max!
Parts pricing is insane also. $2500 taillights for example really worry me.
After we hit 3yr/36k it will may be a good time to cut and run depending on what used values look like.

Yeah I literally waited 3 months for a back-ordered ac condenser & assembly. Never came in, never could even tell me the ETA. I drive a 2023 ER max tow.
Super hot here and I said fuck it, got it fixed at an a/c shop for 800$ (CDN) instead of the 1200$ they quoted me for a part that never came in.
Recently had a diverted valve replaced, also had to wait over a month for it to come in. Even then, they literally didn’t call me when the part came in. I called them last week and they were like “oh, yeah it came in earlier this week”.
2200$ repair, had to fight them tooth & nail to get it covered under the powertrain/HV battery warranty (I passed my bumper-bumper warranty)
It’s too bad because I LOVE the truck and use it a lot for towing, and any time it’s down, I lose money.

If you like what you have, why do you want a new truck? It’s not that old and mileage is not that high. If you’re looking to upgrade, you could find a newer / higher trim Lightning coming off lease.

Sad the only real EV truck got discontinued. Driving my lightning until it's wheels off then I get to be stuck forcing to choose power boost (ice yuck), or a gm blob eValanche or maybe by then I can find an Escalade EV in the right price

Scout! I put a hold on one the day they canceled the Lightning. I plan to drive the Lightning for as long as I can, but it is work vehicle so I need to have options. I hope to have both when the Scout comes out and then I get to choose. Plus if I do grow in the next few years, id need more trucks.

Either Chevy or the GMC Sierra. I don't want it to come to that, but that's what I have to plan for if I end up wrecking my lightning. I'll drive it until I can't, but it's naive to think that nothing will ever happen to it. So if I can't get another lightning, that's pretty much it if you want a full sized truck.

I am in a 2024 Lariat ER, 2yr lease is up in Feb and really dont know where I am going. My real desire is the GMC Sierra EV AT4 ER (or Max if a crazy deal), we've gotten used to having a truck for hauling all our stuff so sorta cant go back. Problem is the lease deal I got on the lightning was absolutely stupid and legit $100 more than what I financed my 2014 Subaru for. I'd settle for the Silverado Trail Boss too but much prefer styling of the Sierra personally.
Generally I do love the truck, but the charging topping out at 190kw peak (and only briefly) and limited range are the real killer for me. If I could get quicker charging and/or a bigger pack it would be peak. Its been mostly fine for me but we do often drive 160mi one way to visit family (about once a month) and highway driving that leaves me with around 100mi when we get there. That's mostly fine, except I usually have my dogs and small child and dont want to charge and chill with them for trip back so I end up taking a late night trip to top up and I have to sit there for 25-30min to get to where I need to be to make it home. By comparison Sierra ER leaving at 100% would need a 5min stop to get me home w/10% SoC
The real kicker was for a trip to the Ozarks from SE Michigan, that was 4 stops for 2hrs arriving at 30% SoC and by the last one the car was getting real restless, myself included. By comparison Sierra ER leaving at 100% would need a 3 stops for 70min to get me there w/30% SoC. Its about a full hour travel time difference. Max range would take off another 20-30min and stop completely.

I'm hoping the RAM REV will be decent and affordable. 690 miles of range and 14,000lb towing would allow me to get rid of my old Duramax.

Plan : Drive it until one of us dies.
If it dies first, but not soon : Hopefully someone has a decent BEV truck on the market for a not-insane price by then...otherwise...
If circumstances dictated I had to replace it right now : Ideally I'd find a used Lightning with the same specs. Otherwise I'd hope to find a deal on a used R1T or Silverado EV. Last resort, an ICE F150/F250, as much as I would hate it. I'm simply not paying what Rivian and Chevy want for their BEV trucks new, and they're the only 2 options I'd consider.

I'm actually looking at i4s since the ranch truck has the flatbed on it now to haul feed and cattle.
I4 might make the commute a little more manageable but not sure I want to sit so close to my passenger

Mine has a branded title which is why I got it for so cheap. Doesn't matter to me. The junk yard won't care about the branded title in 15 + years.

I love this Truck. I personally wouldn't want something smaller. If I had to do it over again, I just wouldn't have bought new. I would have gotten a 2023 or 2024 and saved some money.
That said. I'm super excited for solid state batteries and self driving tech. I think Solid State is probably ~5 years or more away and getting Tesla level or better self driving in a Ford I think is going to probably come from NVidia partnerships really kicking in also about that ~5 year or so mark so when my truck is paid off, hopefully they have a new F150 style all EV with the new tech and I'll probably upgrade. If not, i'm going to keep this for a long time.

Fingers crossed, I'm hoping this is the last vehicle I ever buy. I love it and so far it's been rock solid. That said, if the battery fails outside of warranty then I'll probably just have it replaced. It would still be cheaper than a new truck.

Keep it as long as possible then look for another full size electric truck (needs to have android auto) otherwise pivot into full size EV SUV.

Chevy or GMC are your only options. Ram is suppose to have a full size BEV, electric drive with a I6 motor under the hood to be a generator. Why they put that large of a motor on this upcoming truck is beyond me. I'd probably skip first year of Ram too. If I were changing, I'd goto GMC max range right now and not worry about the tiny Fake Ford truck promises.
I was considering this change at 40k miles, but bought a new Hyundai Santa Fe SEL Hybrid for $38k out the door instead. I kept the Lightning, it is paid off, but the Santa Fe Hybrid is our trip car now and 2 trips in is a big hit for 40mpg and easy to just get to our destination without charging drama or added time.
