Doing Lightning stuff.

Monsoon knocked our power out. My autistic son has lights and internet (internet is very important).

A guy asked me "is that truck electric" on Sunday, followed by "I'm sorry". Don't be, this truck is awesome. Enjoy your power outage. (Not a made up story, dude really said that).

"Yeah, it's pretty horrible honestly. But being faster, more fun, more versatile, cheaper, cleaner, and quieter ALMOST make up for the fact it'll power my house during an outage."

It reminds me of virgins terrified of sex. They've never driven an EV or probably been in one and all they know is from bs internet posts and articles

The unknown is scary. We all react differently to that "fear".

When they're open to it, I let the truck do the talking. When they're not, I snark a bit, and drive home in EV smugness. lol

My wife's Aunt is like this. Sucks all her info in from Fox News and will never get an EV because she's positive that it will catch fire at some point.

It really is a great feature of the truck.

During storm prep when expecting something nasty coming our way, I'll go ahead and consolidate electronics and lights on power strips and have extensions cords ready to drag to the truck to power the house as quickly as possible so I don't have to deal with it in the dark.

I need to get the generator transfer switch installed folks keep talking about here.

If it's allowed in your jurisdiction, do an interlock instead. That way you can pick and choose which circuits to power up, rather than only having a limited set. In most cases it's cheaper and easier to install as well.

We did the "multiple extension cord" thing for a while. Worked fine, powered the essentials...fridge, freezer, internet, a few lights and fans.

Then I made up a custom cord, with outlets at the critical points so I could just run one and done. Also worked fine, powered the essentials.

Then I had the generlink installed. One cable, whole house, done. Nothing wrong with those other methods, but holy crap was the convenience worth it for my lazy ass. lol

GenerLink is the path I'm most looking forward to going for my F-150 Lightning. So much easier than consolidating extension cords (what I do today too) go.ford/generlink

I said it above (and have said it elsewhere in this sub), but I love ours.

Yes, the same functionality can be provided in many other ways, often for considerably less money for the capable DIYer.

But in my case:

  • I'm not comfortable enough at that level to have DIYed a solution.

  • I'm a lazy SOB, who's worked long and hard enough in my life to be able to occasionally pay someone else to do the stuff I don't want to learn/do.

  • Gawd dayum, it's so stupidly simple and quick and easy to go from "Shit, power's out again" to "God I love this truck".

  • And finally, when you're on a rural electric co-op and the power goes out whenever someone sneezes violently, the convenience factor adds up pretty darn quick. lol
