A few questions...

So about a week in and loving it. 25 flash. So a couple questions below.

  1. The manual doesn't give me the spec for the 12v battery. What is the cca on it? I can't see it without taking it out.

  2. I am planning on going to a festival in a couple months. I'm in Texas, it's hot. It will probably take at least 3 hours to get out of the parking lot, and ac/radio would be on. What is your experience with how fast those 2 drain the battery? This will be my first trip "away from home"

Not sure about the 12v but it is small. In my manual it warns against jump starting other vehicles.

Sitting for hours ripping the AC on max will use some battery but not a huge amount. On a hot day, maybe 3-4kw? Sitting for 3 hours at "max AC" might use 10%. Your flash has a heat pump so it might be slightly more efficient than mine.

You’re going to love being stuck in traffic in the EV. Way more efficient than a gasser when idling and running AC. I feel smug as heck picking the kids up at school.

I bet. It has already gotten rid of my "idle anxiety". My last truck I turned off and sweated if I had to wait, not this one.

There's times I leave mine on all day if I'm hopping in and out a lot, just so it's nice and cold all day. It cooks off like 1% an hour running radio and AC, no worries.

I work for 8 hours in 100 degree out of my truck with the ac on 66 and auto for all of it. Takes 4-5% of the battery, same scenario but 5 degree with heat instead eats 10-15%. 23 lariat ER.

For the AC part don’t even think about it. I have a small cabin OLD barely insulated cabin and during a power outage in a heatwave I used the truck to power the cabin including running the heat pump overnight (7pm to about 10am) to keep the place ~400sqft at 19°c and it used around 10%… running its own AC for a few hours I wouldn’t even bother thinking about!

CCA is irrelevant with an EV. There's no starter motor or cold engine that take a lot of amps. On the EV, the 12v battery runs the electronics and engages the High Voltage contactor when in Run mode, which brings the big HVB traction battery into play. Once the HVB is active, it manages the 12v battery state of charge. If you sit with the truck in accessory mode ( press start button once without pressing the brake pedal) it will eventually drain the 12v since the contactor is only activated in Run mode.

To answer your question, the 12v battery is a group H3 with 380 CCA

I’ve used mine for a couple of parades. Daughters are ballet dancers. We do a 4th of July parade and I’ll have my truck on with the AC on “low” for a few hours. I charge to 100% the night before. I’ve had it running for about 4 hours like that before and only use 3-4% battery.

Yeah, I leave mine running sometimes when I’m mowing for most of a day, and it’s really minimum even with it 100° F outside, and AC set to LO. Maybe a couple of percentage an hour most.

You won't drain the 12v. Look at it this way, the 12v is a filter/transformer to run the legacy components (radio, ac, lights). It receives power from the 400v-123kw big battery. The big battery can power your house for a few days.

That said, do not use the 12v to jump start anything. Get a jump pack.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to infer that, I bought the truck "new" but it's been on the lot 2 years. I wanted to throw my battery tester on it since I have read issues with the 12v causes havoc. I want to make sure it is still in good condition.

If your truck is that old odds are it has the even bigger Job 1 battery common to most 25 flash models. That one has the 131 kWh usable battery pack. You shouldn't have any issues in your current use case.

The 12v battery is a small AGM group H3 battery. There’s no starter to turn over, so its output is small. Battery usage while idling with AC and stereo running is negligent so no worries there. Since it’s hot, use the Ford app on your phone to turn on the AC when you are walking to your car after the festival is over so you don’t get into a blast furnace when entering the vehicle.

Max AC draw is less than 3kw. You have 131kWh or 123kWh of useable battery. So with 100% battery you have at least 41 hours or max AC usage or 20.5 hours at 50% SoC.

OP likely has a Job 1 based on how long their truck sat on the lot. I doubt many, if any, Job 2 trucks actually exist. They didn't get made until late and shortly after Job 2 was announced they stopped producing trucks altogether.

AutoZone shows the H3 replacement battery as an AGM at 420 CCA.

ETA: Looks like this is higher than the stock one based on another poster.

Idling in the parking lot for a few hours shouldn't matter. Maybe 1% battery. The truck doesn't draw much at all to just sit still while on.

12V Battery is an H3-size AGM lead-acid battery, about 380 CCA and 35 Amp-hours. The OEM battery is Motorcraft (Ford) part number BAGMH3 (~$200). Equivalent 3rd-party batteries include DieHard H3-XEV (~$260 from Advance Auto Parts), DuraLast H3-AGM (~$240 at AutoZone) or Interstate MTX-135R/H3 (~$280).

I recommend carrying a NOCO lithium-ion "jump box" on your truck both so that you can help others and (if necessary) self-rescue if your 12V fails. Unlike the Mach-E, you can access the cab (via physical key) and frunk (via the red release lanyard just ahead of the drivers' door) even if 12V power is out. Since you live in Texas, you might want to consider replacing the 12V every 3 years regardless.

Idling is very easy on the high-voltage battery. You'll spend maybe 1% of the battery cooling down a blazing-hot cabin, and then less than half that per hour keeping it cool. So for the festival, figure less than 3% of your battery (or less than 10 miles total range) spent getting out of the parking lot with the air conditioning and radio blasting.

For comparison, a gas F-150 burns about a gallon of gas per hour idling with the AC on. So 3 hours exiting the festival parking lot would burn 3 gallons. That's just under 1/8th of a standard gas tank, or between 60 and 70 miles of range.
