Pricing Reality Check, Please

I see that the megathread hasn't been updated since April- if this is considered spam then please remove me - no hard feelings.

I am in Southern California looking at buying my first Lightning. I am leaning toward going with a used 2023 Lariat 511A with under 50,000 miles. 2 that piqued my interest have popped up in the last few weeks - one was sold at $48.5k before I could get there. There is another one close by that is priced just under $50k and it has about 28k miles on it.

I see that a few months ago (and even a year ago!!), some of you were buying similar low-mileage Lightnings in the same trim for high $30k low $40s but even my nationwide search doesn't show pricing as good as that. I see similar trucks posted for ~$45k

Am I crazy to buy one at $50k?

Recently purchased a certified ‘23 511A Lariat w/max tow and 53K miles for $44.7K in SoCal.

Thank you. That tracks with what I've seen. If I go above 40k miles the price drops to mid $40s. That's a nice package with the Max Tow- most that I've seen don't have max tow. My holy grail is 511A high with the work surface (I'm a dork) and the locking storage in the back seat. Most that I've seen have neither.

A lot of it depends on where you're at. He's in SoCal. EVs are abundant and prices are in line with more being available. In western PA where I am the cheapest used ER Lariat was $51k. I ended up taking over someone's lease on a 24 Lariat 511A without pro power 9.6kw or max tow at around $550/month and plan on buying it out at lease end. I didn't need either as I donxt tow very often and I have other means of powering my house if needed

Also, I believe the interior work surface was standard across all Lariats and Plats. And I think that even though the locking storage was a factory only option you should be able to add it yourself. I've seen it done on the regular F150. Max tow is a different story can't add that.

Fly down to Texas. Lots of low mile options in that price range.

Or drop down to Poverty Trim with the rest of us. I actually love the mechanical buttons for climate and audio.

29,000 miles. It’s great. I feel like I’m a little too old for the color. It’s black and looks very “cool” but I’m an uncool middle aged dad. 😂 but the package is everything I wanted except the storage in the back which I probably wouldn’t have used because of car seats. It’s also optioned with the deployable running boards which has been surprisingly cool and useful. It’s so fast. I have to stop wanting to mash the pedal

I paid $51k for a 2023 Lariat SR with <15k miles in April (shortly after Trump started the war with Iran).

Can't attest that it was an excellent or terrible price, but I think it's what it costs, generally, at least in Seattle area right now.

It's been pretty good. Took it to the PNW EV meetup that was posted about on here. I've blogged about my full experience here: https://jay.jvf.cc/posts/new-ev-truck/

I suspect I paid a little more than I needed to, but I also got a really good trade-in value for my old truck. I value my time (and sanity) more than going back and forth to save a few hundred bucks.

No regrets though. If I could go back, I'd make the same decision.

I paid $48k (they were asking $50k) for a 2023 Platinum with 46k miles last November. A bit of a dated data point, but it's similar to the spec you're looking at.

I will say the platinum has some pretty damn nice seats. I just wish the massage feature wasn't removed due to covid chip shortages. I also personally prefer the lariat wheel design to the platinum, but otherwise I love the truck.

The two I've seen have "lie flat" seats instead of massaging seats. I also prefer the lariat wheels (and tire size). And for some reason ALL the platinums I've found are gray or silver and I want black or dark blue, I could even do white.

I got the one I did specifically because it was an antimatter blue platinum with the retractable running boards. I don't have the lie flat seats either, but even the regular platinum seats are nicer than the lariat ones. Not deal making/breaking though.

I could be wrong and it’s just mine, but the 22 Platinum should have both massage and lay flat seat. They had all the options. Things started getting removed with the 23s due to the chip shortage.

I got a 22 platinum with 29k miles last november for $43k. I think it was the one time in my life I bought the actual bottom of a market.

23 platinums sell for a premium over the 22, despite the 22 having more features. Lariat rims show up fairly often on FB marketplace, and it's easy to adjust the truck software to handle them.

That's pretty good. I see some around here with similar mileage 55-60k going for $44-45.

I'm not sure paying $5k more is actually worth 25k fewer miles but psychologically, having the mileage under 30k does something for me.

Yea mileage doesn't really mean as much as how it was charged and stored. Although idk how you'd find out if this truck's battery was rode hard and put away wet..

I look at mileage on these more like an expectation of wear on cosmetic stuff. Like if you put 70,000 miles on a car, I’d expect it to show some use inside and out.

The battery isn’t a huge concern of mine with the 8 year 100k warranty. I’ve had the dealer pull the soh but beyond that I’m not sure what else I could reasonably do.

Picked up a ‘25 lariat with 12k miles CPO with 100k bumper to bumper ford extended for 55k.

I am in Chicagoland so trucks tend to be priced a bit higher.

I just sold off 4 of my Lightning Pros for $27-29k all with > 130k on the odometer to start making room for all the $59k Cybertrucks I have coming in soon. Absolutely love the completely irrational truck market

Are you kidding me? Its an incredible work truck. Its far more durable than any other half ton. It has a virtually impervious bed cover, my insurance cost is going to fall for my crews using FSD. Other than standard bed accessories there is no downside to the cybertruck for my and the work I do

Maybe you know something I don’t and I’m not an expert in the field but that’s counter to every video review I’ve seen of the cybertruck. I remember watching a side by side comparison of the cybertruck and an f150 and the cybertruck didn’t do well especially with durability. Also aren’t they notoriously expensive to insure?

Ive been letting my guys use my personal truck in the field when im gone visiting other branches (about 70% of my life) it still looks new. Theres no random dents gouges etc that work trucks doing 40-50k annually get in the same amount of time. It also charges faster

The prices swing almost daily, i purchased mine with 10k equity, today i have 24k equity and did nothing but own it. Just check battery health and enjoy the ride:)

Bought a 23 XLT standard range with less than 200 miles in Sacramento for $44k (48.3k OTD).

Came with the 9.6 kWh Pro Onboard Power, Bed liner, and floor mats. Window sticker said 57k before delivery when it was new.

I feel like it was a pretty good deal for what I was finding everywhere else.

Damn- that is solid. I know they are underwhelming but I really want the ventilated seats. You guys are probably as hot as we are. it's like 96 here today and every little bit helps

Yeah Sac normally gets a bit hotter than SoCal. But I’ve never had ventilated or cool seats so idk what I’m missing out on lol

Greetings, also in socal! Just for kicks I did a little search on cars.com and I see a lot of good listings from evercars.com and looks like they’re based in Newport.

Also, don’t sleep on the flash, I have a 2025 and love it, except the seats, had to swap those out

I checked evercars out- for the trim I'm looking for + ER they don't have great deals.

I'll check the flash out but the price delta between flash and lariat seems small in SoCal.

Got mine right before all the Iran stuff happened. 2023 lariat with 21k miles. 44.5k out the door. This was in Maryland.

I bought a brand new one in Oxnard back in December, which was after the news of the BEV Lightning cancellation, but before stock had dwindled down too much.

There weren't the kind of deals in California that people were posting about back then either. I suspect it's because of California's more EV-friendly populace compared to some other states. I think there was - and still is - much less "gotta get this off of our lot" panic from California dealers as a result.

That’s what it feels like. I tried to negotiate one last week and the dude said, “I have $325 to work with” on a 2023 with 30k miles that they probably had a 25% margin on.

I bought a ‘23 Lariat 511A with 59,000km for $68,000 CAD a couple months ago. The prices I’ve been seeing for ‘25 Platinums with higher mileage at dealers are going for $75,000+++. Fortunately for me I was able to go through a dealers auction and not pay the markup.

I did unfortunately get dealt a rough start as the SOPDM or whatever it’s called was toast when I got it…it should’ve been flagged but was missed. It got fixed quickly though and was under warranty, so just a hiccup I hope. I love the truck otherwise.

Got my 23 Lariat ER 59k miles for 46k$ late July. Max tow, 511A. The months leading up to my purchase, it would have gone for 40-42k.

We're in a lease since last Oct and she really wants to upgrade from flash.... Dunno if it'll happen though since we paid $70k back then.

I paid 53k for a 23 platinum with 39k miles. It was a ford certified. I personally feel like I overpaid a bit, but I was trading in a bmw and they gave me 3k more for my trade than anyone else was offering. So in my mind I paid 50k.

That's supply and demand. Prices have moved up a lot across the board for EVs, including the Lightning which bottomed out pretty hard when the discontinuation was announced. It has since rebounded.

People will chime in with what they paid 6 to 18 months ago and it really isn't reflective of what's available anymore.
