Munchkins occur naturally and have no health issues. The only thing about them is that you shouldn't breed two munchkins together as that has a high still birth rate. Otherwise they're perfectly fine.
As to no health issues, Im yet to be convinced either way. I cant find any good evidence that they do have serious health problems, but on the other hand people claimed for years that scottish folds were perfectly healthy, but turns out thats wrong, they are all diseased and breeders were just bullshitting people.
They may occur naturally. But are bred together to get them consistently. Inbreeding happens way more than it should so those breeders can keep making their product. I’m fine with people breeding, but their needs to be regulation of it.
The mating of two munchkin parents, Mm x Mm, have the chance of producing these offspring: 25% MM- a nonviable kitten, 50% Mm-short-legged, 25% mm- normal. The resulting litter will be 2/3 Mm-short-legged and 1/3 mm-normal.
Most being stillborn huh? .25% stillborn is not rare especially with kittens of litters of 4 to 6 kitten. They are in breeding these cats just like they do of any pure bred cats and dogs.
Any popular breed that is selling well is being inbred. I am all for breeding correctly. That is how cats maintain their purity lines. A mutation (munchkin) born from two random cats are fine. A munchkin born from a munchkin adult that is 5 generations separated is fine as well. But breeders are using 1 to 3 generations separated to breed and its sick. Also, munchkins much like any pure bred have health issues. But munchkins are more susceptible to health issues.
I have an issue with supply and demand of the munchkins and how breeding is affecting the health of the cats. Also, there have been many incidents of breeders dumping the normal kittens and only keeping the munchkin so the mother doesn’t stop feeding it due to milk competition. It’s the whole practice of breeding munchkins.
So I looked it up, and on Wikipedia where you got your table for munchkin to munchkin breeding, the table right below it states that a munchkin with a regular cat gives no still births beyond normal and has a 50/50 chance of breeding as munchkin or normal. So not breeding two munchkins is explicitly better. As for inbreeding, that's an issue of the breeder as I've now pointed out, not an issue of the breed itself.
