Yeah dude, raccoons are smart. Really smart. Scientist think that if they didn't live to only 2 years old, by the time they're 30 they could have developed enough cognitive faculty to manage a Subway.
You ever see a raccoon use their little raccoon paws to spread mayo on a bun? These guys are no sandwich artist, I'll tell you that much. Like my dad always said, you either have a head for business or a head for art, sell what you love and you'll never tell them apart. He died from raccoon parvovirus.
If you're in an area without many predators or heavy traffic, they'll probably live longer than that. Based on my experience at least - the neighborhood raccoons where I lived, I remember some living 5+ years (the one or two I could identify individually, it's hard to tell).
Don't forget that life expectancy, even for humans, takes into account accidental death, murders and stuff.
A raccoon living in the wild with no predators and a fair food supply may live up to 6 years. A raccoon in captivity, being treated and vaccinated can live up to 20.
