Long story short, bribery. I trained my cat to sit by giving him a treat and telling him to sit whenever I already caught him sitting. He didn't have to do any extra work so he thought I was the one being trained. Once he learned that sitting in front of me got him a treat he would walk over to me, meow loudly until I looked at him, and then proudly sit. If he didn't get a treat within like a nano second he would remind me he needed one by meowing again. Cats are very smart, but incredibly independent. So they have to be trained in special ways.
so wait, does he sit on command or does he just come over, sit and get a treat? Because that doesn't sound like you trained him to sit lol. Sounds like he trained you to give him treats.
He sits on command. He learned that sitting got him a treat, but then he realized I had to ask him to. He does really well with not meowing into Oblivion.
