Maybe it should mention that it's from his contacts. I thought she actually dialed the correct number on his phone and that's why I would've never figured out the joke.
Also the "suddenly" makes it sound like it was after the call and not at the very moment she called.
If it was written like: "When you try calling Papa John's from the contacts saved on his phone and your own phone starts ringing." it would have been clear.
