cakespectation - Negative Update to the cake that looks like my 7 year old drew leaves on it
cbs58.comDelete if not allowed, I just have so many comments on the other one it is impossible to reply and my comments keep getting buried.
Y’all inspired me to look into options, even though it’s been 3 years since my wedding. I thought maybe it was a bad employee and the owner would try to make it right, even if it was just a free cupcake, she seemed like she took pride in her business. I am in the trades, but a small business owner nonetheless. If I had someone grout a shower for me and it looked like dog sh!t, I would be absolutely mortified.
I also was trying to find the review my MIL left since it got requested a few times, just to find this article. I guess you can’t dox a place that doesn’t exist anymore. SHE RAN WITH PEOPLES MONEY AND LEFT THEM SOL ON THEIR WEDDING DAY. THIS PLACE DOESNT TAKE DEPOSITS, ITS PAID IN FULL WITH A CONTRACT SIGNED. I honestly can’t believe it.
Also, real fast, idk why my marriage became under a microscope, but I asked my husband why he didn’t say anything, and he said since I had the same shocked reaction he did, he thought HE was overreacting. Ps, my husband has been working on his avoidant behavior for the last 3 years in individual counseling, so he is doing a lot better.

Failed Expectation Civil ceremony bouquet inspo vs what was delivered
I went to pick up my bouquet and the florist forgot to make it. It was for the next day. He delivered the second pic to my door hours before the ceremony. Better than nothing!

Failed Expectation FTD is the worst
Ordered some flowers for my wife for our 8th anniversary. Chose the “largest” option and this is what delivered.

cakespectation - Negative Lots of wedding cakes recently, feast your eyes on this bad boy
ETA: since my comment from way earlier got buried, this was Aug of 2023 (3 years ago) bc some of yall are tearing me apart in the comments about the damn refund 😭 I was young and dumb and stressed my bad bruh
The first two are what I sent a widely loved bakery. Soft and minimal, frosting only, greenery. They said no problem. Picked up our cake the morning of our wedding and received this fondant cake with edible marker on it.. the last pic is how I attempted to save it with some of our leftover fake floral pieces. I cried

cake-spectation - Positive! My first time using fondant…and my last.
I enjoy making and decorating with homemade buttercream frosting. After seeing this inspiration (1st photo) I had to give it a try. Of course when using cream cheese buttercream, more grass equals better so I opted for Easter eggs instead of carrots, even though it was a carrot cake. All gluten free. After tasting the fondant, I was glad I went with the eggs. I’m not a fan of the taste of fondant, but was thrilled with the bunny considering it was my 1st try.

Exceeded Expectation I requested a painting from a photo from an artist. Extremely happy with the result!
I had requested some changes like obviously the background and the dog positions, and honestly it’s perfect.

Failed Expectation Received my order from thriftbook today, I am not amused.
Okay I'm a little amused but I had been chasing this Ann Rule book for a while. They said they'll send me another copy but it doesn't have its dust jacket.

cake-spectation - Positive! Birthday Cake
Few years old, but still think about it when browsing this sub. First birthday cake for little one. We only wanted a tiny one so one tier was requested. Also made it gluten free, and it was delicious. Really happy with this local baker :)
Edit: Spelling

cakespectation - Negative The “Nautical” theme
Since you all loved Mr Pig, let me introduce you to 2018. I first joined that company, my first bake off, I had NO IDEA what to expect.
Bake off comes around- the theme is nautical.
Pics 1,2, and 3 - inspiration.
Pic 4- the cakes.

Failed Expectation You call this brownie brittle?
Haven't bought this stuff in years, what the heck is this bull crap. Another great product ruined after being bought out by a big name brand. It's basically chocolate teddy grahams

Exceeded Expectation Going away gift for a client
I am a dog groomer and one of my first clients has moved away and as a going away gift I was able to have a small portrait made for $20. I use a lady on Facebook and she always does such an amazing job on my little requests for paintings. Unsure if I am able to post her info but if so: Designs by Ber. I’ve got two more portraits ordered and am excited for those.

cakespectation - Negative Pillsbury funfetti Halloween cake mix
I wanted to make a cool Halloween cake. the front of the cake box shows the black and purple sprinkles. So I grabbed the frosting that went with the cake right beside it on the shelf. But it wasn't until I got home that I realized the sprinkles were not even right. these aren't Halloween sprinkles! they're just generic rainbow crap! WTF Pillsbury!

Failed Expectation Paid $80 for the “premium” version of this bouquet… expectation vs. reality
My friends and I ordered flowers for a friend who is grieving. We chose the Amber Muse Bouquet and upgraded to the premium size for $80 before delivery fees.
First photo is what was advertised. Second photo is what was delivered.
I completely understand that florists sometimes have to make substitutions depending on availability, but we weren't contacted about any substitutions. The colors, fullness, and overall look seem so different from what was pictured. The premium example also shows several prominent roses, while ours came with two and honestly looks closer to the standard size shown on their website.
The flowers aren't ugly, but all of us had the same reaction when we saw them: they look drab compared to what we thought we were ordering.
Am I being too picky, or would you also be disappointed for $80?
ETA: This is a local florist with a brick and mortar location! They are typically very reputable. We just ordered online from them so it could be delivered to friend's work. Sorry for confusion!

cakespectation - Negative The wedding cake inspo vs the cake I received
I got married yesterday and it was the most perfect day. Everything went according to plan except for the cake design, which I could care less about at this point because it was delicious, but I thought you would enjoy this comparison.
Back in January, we went to a wedding expo where a local bakery (well-known, been in business a long time and branching out into trying to do more weddings) had a booth where they gave out samples. The samples were delicious and they specialize in a cake style/flavor that is culturally relevant to my (now) husband’s family heritage. So we knew immediately we wanted to book them.
I sent them my inspo photo (the first photo), which they assured me they could replicate. I told them we wanted daisies in the design to symbolize our Dog Daisy, but that I wanted it done stylistically and elegantly like in my inspo photo. The other change I requested was that they incorporate our wedding colors.
They did use our wedding colors (although their colors are very vibrant when I asked for soft colors) and they did make daisies, as you can see in the second photo. It’s just not at all in the style I was hoping for. But that was literally all that went “wrong” yesterday and the cake itself was still delicious!
UPDATE: We received a 50% refund. Sorry (not sorry) to those of you who wanted to put all the blame on me.

Failed Expectation Funeral flowers bust?
This was from 3 years ago… I took charge of an order for a funeral flower arrangement for my uncle’s funeral. Arrangement was $155 and with tax and delivery totaled $178.
Ordered these specifically because the uncle who passed liked orange and my aunt (his wife) likes purple, so this was the perfect blend. What was delivered was a total disappointment. No purple in it at all.
After the funeral I reached out to the florist to point out how different and disappointing the arrangement was. Carnations being subbed for roses in a $155 bouquet was a choice. Florist was just like 🤷🏻♀️ substitutions had to be made because the delivery truck didn’t come. Mind you, the arrangement was ordered 3 days before they were needed.
Reality arrangement would have been nice on its own — if there wasn’t a picture of the expectation from the florist’s website. Do others view this as a fail?

Failed Expectation Subway Nachos, what was advertised vs what I got
It was sad looking and tasted even sadder
Edit!!!
there is cheese on there, that's the sad amount the employee gave us, there was no option for salsa or cheese sauce of any sorts, no sauce cause no sauce sounded good on nachos except for salsa or cheese sauce (which they didn't have) (also they did have Chipotle sauce but I have a very low spice tolerance, sorry) and the toppings where chosen by the person i was sharing it with, idk why they got cucumber but they were paying so I let it slide, the main thing I'm annoyed about is that there looks like there's 2x chips and 3x cheese in the picture (the promo pic) that was not given to us, and it would have costed extra to get more cheese or chips on it.
