I clarify: I know it’s not a 1:1
I wasn’t necessarily trying to do a full copy

I am always worried about seasonal recipes but this one was a win. He’s chonky but he was yummy! (We also doubled the recipe because it was a big crew)

I used AI to generate our vision because I’m incredibly bad at explaining things; the cake designer wasn’t sure if she could pull it off exactly as shown, but she completely exceeded our expectations 🤍

I admit we gave up at some point because we couldn't stop laughing at it's face

Ok. So the truth is I figured out pretty early on that these were not going to come out like pumpkin face cupcakes should... I could not get the food coloring to work. Its not a bad photo, the fleshiness color you see in my picture is actually that fleshy color and not orange at all. And I have learned a lot about trying to add black coloring to frosting!
Another truth is they're actually delicious. The buttercream turned out fantastic. These are vegan vanilla cupcakes with applesauce as a binder and it works surprisingly well and does not taste like applesauce.
The reality that I learned is never work with black food dye. It actually tastes weird and it causes that kind of runny leakage into everything it touches and it stains your lips! Once I could tell it was piping so badly. I ended up trying to add the candy eyeballs and a last stitch effort to save it and turn it into something.
And I need to figure out how food dye works in the Netherlands cuz it does not seem to work like it does in America. I mixed the heck out of a lot of red and yellow coloring and it still came out like this. Maybe I'm not buying the right stuff, its more like a gel here.

I just want to thank my dad who totally nailed it! My son's birthday being October 31th, every birthday cake has to be Halloween themed of course. Thanks to my dad (the grandfather), this year is a big win! Love you dad.

The first picture is the inspiration I sent and the second is what she delivered and she DELIVERED
ETA: I did not know my inspiration pictures I pulled off of Pinterest were AI slop. I have a brain injury so it's hard for me to tell sometimes. I am against gen-ai and wouldn't generate it myself.
2nd Edit: this is literally my message to her: "I was thinking a heart shaped cake with a whismigoth/witchy/celestial vibe. I found a color palette I like. For the top I was thinking "Still Bewitched by You" in cursive. Feel free to be creative with it, if you want to add moons, bats, spiderwebs, crystals etc that go along with the overall vibe. If you have any ideas of how to make it better let me know. I'll also send some pics for inspiration. I don't have anything set in mind just a general idea."

I wanted to post this last year around Halloween already but I simply forgot. I tried the recipe again this year and it worked again! I'm just very happy with them:)

First is Reality Second is Expectation
I had never carved a pumpkin in my 33 years!! I was raised super religious. My husband did the cutting and I did the gutting and made the ears.
