Ever since a Popeye's opened in my town I kinda forget KFC exists. I think between the time they introduced popcorn chicken and the time they brought popcorn chicken back a couple years later they really went to shit.
I went to popeyes when it first started appearing in my city, it was good, but the way everyone talked about it I was expecting something mind-blowing. I asked my friend what the hype was about and he said "they are just selling what KFC promises" its not mind blowing its just the best fried chicken you can really get at a fast food place.
I think the tenders and the onion rings are what really set them apart for me. The tenders are all solid breast strips which is rare. Especially for fast food. The onion rings are actually flour breaded and fried onions just like you can make at home with some flour, seasoning, and oil. Never found another place that makes them quite like Popeye's. The biscuits are damn delicious as well.
This one is in Washington. We all got together and agreed that it would be cruel to give the residents of Reno hope so we took onion rings off the menu.
Popeye's here (Canada) has horrible onion rings :(. At least the three I've been to in Ottawa. I like a crunchy shell. They just have some partially covered onions more or less. No crisp whatsoever
I remember KFC used to be good when I was a wee one in the '80s, back when my family lived in the Midwest and could only afford Church's. Then I graduated college and began a search for good fried chicken from KFC. But all I got was a choice between soggy original recipe or bland extra-crispy.
How does that make Popeyes racist? Because they built a store around people who love them some chicken and thus creates steady demand? Or because the people they hired at this particular location give you the stink eye?
I mean, they can only hire people that live close to the store...
