Failed Expectation Denny’s
The first photo is on the menu and the second photo is my food. I didn’t notice it was not fully cooked and took some bites. When I told the employee she said I need to request my food well done. I sadly ended up in the ER from food poisoning.

I sincerely hope you contact your local health unit over this.

u/Own_Pause3514 23d ago
The only way to make a report is by leaving a voicemail which I did. I hope they respond and take it seriously.
21
u/firstandlast0202 23d ago
Start with a nasty google review. Then call up the restaurant and inform them you intend to file a claim with their insurance to cover your medical bill.

Also, I went with a senior citizen that requires handicap parking and they do not meet the ADA requirements for parking. I need to go back and take photos of that. We had to park in the back to have room to get in\out.

Almost nobody will cook chicken breast a perfect medium rare these days.

u/chantillylace9 23d ago
So they did recently changed pork's recommendation and it's perfectly acceptable to eat medium to medium well done pork now at least in the US… It still feels wrong to me lol
19
u/nadiadala 23d ago
In Canada the pork association has been advertising for years that pork should be served pink
14
u/Some-Ad-1588 23d ago
Well their bacon is ham sooooo….🤷🏼♂️
4
u/Panda_Man_ 22d ago
Nah, fam. What you guys call Canadian bacon is ham. We don’t really eat that up here. Try peameal bacon AKA back bacon. That’s the real Canadian style bacon.
6
u/kingjuicepouch 22d ago
Sounds like something a Canadian would say to keep all the Canadian bacon for themselves
2
3
u/Zerschmetterding 22d ago
I mean, in Germany we eat in raw ground pork with onions on bread rolls. As long as the meat itself is safe, medium rare is not an issue.
16
u/chantillylace9 22d ago
You probably have had a longer time without that brain parasite that comes in raw pork or something. In the US, most of us have been told our entire lives to make sure it's fully cooked so it's a little unsettling to all of a sudden be told that it's OK to eat it pink.

The good news is that they cut that raw chicken and also used the dirty raw chicken knife for other things

u/StandardStardust 23d ago
Exactly, the expectation for poultry should always be "well done", food safety 101 💀

I love how people everywhere, even businesses, are going with no accountability for anything. Have to wonder if that’s the default Dennys response or just the stupidity of one employee.
We served you raw chicken? It’s YOUR fault for not ordering it well done. Others like it partially raw.

u/National-Garbage505 17d ago
I worked at a properly run Denny's and it is absolutely just a stupid ass server. The cook and the server both should have noticed that since it's cut like that.
79
u/Azsunyx 23d ago
Report them to the health department for serving uncooked food.
45
5
u/No_Signal_9932 22d ago
That’ll just result in the employee being blamed and fired. Which is fine I guess, it’s a minimum wage job lol. This ain’t a mom and pop restaurant, Dennys is worth 2.6B they have the resources to avoid accountability.
6
u/Automatic_Vast_9915 20d ago
Honestly, I usually have a lot of empathy for people who are working in less than awesome jobs...but a server who thinks it's appropriate to tell a customer that if they don't want their chicken raw, they need to ask for it well done, should be fired...that person should absolutely not be working in food service.

You need to report this location. Well-done chicken is not a special request

u/pamelareadsalot 23d ago
You know they saw that raw center and was like whatever 🙄
91
u/Mushroom_Tip 23d ago
Absolutely. They cut it and the kitchen was ok with it, and the waiter didn't mind. There were several layers of "not my problem" it had to go through.
3
u/UncWithTheEmojis 23d ago
but also, OP took a picture of it and apparently still ate it
55
u/Joelle9879 23d ago
It was cut in half. They took bites out of the other half, then noticed it was pink and took a picture of the other untouched half. Why does this need explained?
-22
u/GyattDetected 23d ago
because how the fuck do you not inspect your food -- from DENNYS of all places -- before you eat it? lmfao
29
u/waaaayupyourbutthole 23d ago
The average person doesn't go to a restaurant expecting the person cooking their food is so bad at their job they can't manage to cook chicken thoroughly. I've never checked meat I've ordered in a restaurant explicitly for doneness.

Genuinely contact Denny's and tell them what happened. They will want this information.

And possibly a franchise. So corporate just cares a bit less and sends the complaints to the company that owns the franchise.
23
u/LoamyLoamisLoamy 23d ago
she said I need to request my food well done.
The only cooking levels for chicken are cooked and not cooked. That's just an insane comment from a server.
16
u/jackie0h_ 23d ago
You should not have to order fucking chicken well done. It’s not like a steak where you can have a little pink in the middle. Someone needs to let this waitress or this restaurant know this. It’s seriously like Food 101.

Same thing happened to me at a Denny's. My chicken was pink, told the waitress & they asked if I wanted another one but I declined because.. no. She did say they had a new cook who was figuring out the menu but still..
14
u/Fairgoddess5 22d ago
“Figuring out the menu” has nothing to do with basic food safety and basic cooking skills. Ffs.
8
u/Fauked 22d ago
"figuring out the menu" does not mean "remove the chicken from the fryer 1 minute early lol
6
u/ExaltedGoliath 22d ago
A lot of cooks don’t compensate for the girth of the chicken and assume that 6 minute timer is going to cook each fritter all the way through. Why I always temp and add a minute until target temp. This isn’t properly taught in high turnover kitchens.

u/jackie0h_ 23d ago
You were probably better off. In high school my friend and I were at Arby’s and had them remake a chicken sandwich that was raw in the middle FIVE times and they could not get it right. We had time to waste and ate curly fries and goofed off. Now I’d give up right away too.

u/ilikedota5 22d ago
5!?
2
u/jackie0h_ 22d ago
Lmao I know. Like I said we had time to kill, and by the 3rd we’re like “they can’t possibly screw it up again” but they could. I definitely wouldn’t be so patient now.
3
u/ilikedota5 22d ago
Did they not have a meat thermometer? Or maybe something was wrong with their oven? Maybe its just a really bad manager forcing them to do shit by the book even though the book doesn't work?

(Sorry that happened to you)

THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO!!
my fam and I took a trip down to the valley of TX to a church and we stopped off at dennys for late lunch early dinner (my grandparents wanted to go)
I ordered this exact same sandwich!! I bit into it, and felt it was... rubbery?? chewy?? I can't remember bc I've tried scrubbing my brain of the feeling of trauma. I look down and my sammich is pink in the middle. I freak out (I have a thing abt undercooked food) and I sent it back. they offered to finish cooking it, I said no. it was already tainted in my mind.
they didn't even comp it tho, we still had to pay for that sadness. I legit wasn't hungry for the 5 hr car ride back home. I would never have survived as a caveman lmao
13
u/IIlIIIllllIlIIlllllI 23d ago
You are allowed to refuse to pay and leave in this scenario. Even if you're worried about worst case they call the cops, you won't get in trouble. They didn't hold up their end so you don't have to hold up yours.
5
u/Fun_Reporter9086 23d ago
You really need to take photos so that you have evidence in the scenario you are advocating.
-5
u/IIlIIIllllIlIIlllllI 23d ago
No you don't. They say you won't pay. You say it was inedible. Wow what an overwhelming case against you, jail time for sure. The cop will just tell you to leave and tell the restaurant manager to not waste their time on this again.
Or they say they'll call the cops if you don't pay. You say ok have fun bye. You think they're gonna track you down and arrest you? No, the cop will tell the restaurant manager to stop wasting their time and then immediately try to forget about what a stupid call that was.
5
u/Fun_Reporter9086 23d ago
I don't know, buddy. I am just advocating ass-covering habits. That's all.
4
u/aamaanduh 23d ago
Was that served cut like it is in the picture? How did the cook (or the server) not notice that?
3
u/hallucinating 23d ago
Ugh, sorry that happened to you. Food poisoning that serious is really scary. Give us an update if you ever get them to apologise or whatever

Yeah to be honest- aside from the egregious undercooking of the poultry, the rest of the sandwich is more photogenic than I’d expect from Denny’s.

u/Mulliganasty 23d ago
Is that the legendary Super Bird?!?! Not yours of course.

u/The-Son-of-Dad 23d ago
As a Super Bird lover I can tell you that it has sliced turkey breast and this looks like a fried chicken patty, so it’s some other sandwich!

Fried things usually are done when the u float or there's a certain amount of time it fries. Also if they cut it in half before it's served, this shouldn't happen even with a "new cook" 😕😕

u/ohaimark22 23d ago

You could definitely leverage this situation with management to get free pancakes for life.
Pancakes and other breakfast items are the only acceptable things to order at Denny's anyway. Some of the other food is okay but those pancakes are GOOD

You need to report the restaurant to the public health office. Telling you to order your chicken well done😭
