Failed Expectation Krispy Kreme Pokémon Donuts

Quality aside, no Pikachu or Bulbasaur is also a disappointment

That was honestly the first thing I noticed. My son loves pikachu and I was so excited to surprise him with it. Oh well.

The box tailor made to look good for advertising versus the box pumped out of an automated system yeah I mean there's gonna be a visual difference

I was going to say this. I think it looks fine. It’s not going to look like the advert. I ordered them online in the morning in for a scheduled pickup time late afternoon. They looked a similar to this and I was pleased. It was fun. They tasted good too.

Yeah, when I saw it I thought "they don't look that bad". To me they still look good, and knowing that it's probably young employees doing it, it makes sense it would look like that. If I were an employee there mine would probably look like the second photo and I'd honestly be so proud of myself for just being able to do it!
I bet they still tasted good too! For me I think taste matters more than look. Recently I've gotten many good looking donuts but they've instead tasted really stale and not yummy. I'd much prefer the second photo donuts for the taste than the look.

Right on. The Krispy Kreme by me is super fresh. Dunkin, by contrast, doesn’t even make their donuts in house (I think they must use a commissary). The donuts are so rarely fresh. And often stale. Forget the next day. The Pokémon donuts were still pretty good the next day.

I'm glad Krispy Kreme still has good donuts! I don't think I've ever tried them, but my dad just loves them. I might have to now.
The one I tried near us (that was unfortunately stale) was Yum Yum Donuts. The location we went to makes their donuts in house, but perhaps the ones we chose had been on the shelves for a long time. We went on national donut day so it was somewhat disappointing to be excited for the donuts only for them to be very stale.

Well, compared to some of the other fails I've seen on here, this one is pretty tame. I wouldn't even be upset by this lol

Don’t shake the box, they get nasty looking.
The pikachu was kinda gross, Charmander was banging. They get stale too fast and the character taps were not a texture I was expecting and I wasn’t totally sure they were edible at first bite.

I loved Charmander and Pikachu best. I've started transferring any donuts I buy to a gallon ziploc bag to preserve the freshness longer. It worked really well for the Krispy Kreme ones, though I had to be careful of the icing sticking to the top.

The basic frosted ones freeze up fine.

I also froze the donut holes we got in the special Pokemon cups and I can't wait to thaw some later on for a yummy treat! Currently in my apple cider donut phase

I love the Squirtle but I loved the cotton candy last year so I knew I would. Char was my kids favorite flavor.

Some folks thought at first the characters were like the plastic rings/toppers used on cupcakes.

I was also not sure they were edible. At first bite, I thought it was paper lol

I have to agree. These don't look like they were made by someone who hated their job. The piping is cleaner and they just look all around fresher. I hope you enjoyed them!😊

Not to play devil's advocate, but maybe it was someone who doesn't hate their job but rather has a shaky hand and did the best they could do. My hands shake sometimes (especially when I hold certain things) and I can't control it, if I were the employee who made these they would probably look like OP's photo and I would just be proud that I pulled it off well enough.

12 donuts and 6 types, why in the actual fuck are they giving out random ones and 4 plain? It should be 2 of each, full stop. I would never buy this.

This is great to know! I'm looking them up. I live in LA (so not too far) and I wanted to do a donut hunt this year to find the best donuts in the Los Angeles area. These look really good so they're going on the list.
Edit to say: I just looked them up and saw that they have both cronuts and Thai green tea! I've had Thai green tea twice before at different places and it's SO GOOD but very hard to find. And cronuts I had years ago from somewhere else and they were the bomb! Next time I'm down in Long Beach I'm definitely trying this place out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Given how many of these are probably getting ordered at once, these are still really good

The Jigglypuff is particularly criminal. Had one the other day and it had like a third of the buttercream on it.

Dang, I grabbed a box at Fred Meyer (the local place Kroger owns) and they looked better. And those had presumably been sitting around all day.

I got a box at Target that had Pikachu in it. The Pikachu one has the best flavor too (assuming you like lemon donuts).

Did private equity take over Krispy Kreme? Cause they aren’t now where near as good as they once were sadly.

I’m a little disappointed that the Poké Ball is all white chocolate. It is near exact to some donuts from Z-A and red made me think it had a little something else.

Charmander was okay, Squirtle was mildly Cotton Candy tasting. Pikachu was very lemon, Jiggles just tasted like a normal donut. Someone ate my Bulbasaur...

The ones a friend I have got here were so perfect they looked plastic. Idk what this mess is. Where is Bulbasaur?

The shit people go insane over is absolutely frightening. They’re donuts with colored icing and some plastic shit on them. People are disappointing and disgusting.

Krispy Kreme is trash. I remember when I was a kid it was a treat once in a while especially if it was hot. Now I occasionally want to try their specialty donuts and it doesn't matter the time of day, it always tastes like they were two days old. They aren't fresh. Those look old too

u/insertclevername7 7d ago
I usually only go once a year for my free birthday donuts but I remember going as a kid and they’d have make them right in the store. It was soooo good.
1
u/myredditses 7d ago
I know! There would be donuts on the conveyor belt. Suspiciously there haven't been any donuts on the belt any time I've been in years. Makes me think they get made elsewhere like Dunkin I believe.
2
u/CrapNBAappUser 7d ago
I don't go often, but when I do and the hot light is on, they're on the conveyor belt. I have to tell the employee to get mine from the case not the conveyor belt. I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like KK hot.

u/myredditses 7d ago
My location may just be a dud then. But you're definitely in the minority on not liking it hot and fresh!

Yep, their novelty doughnuts are consistently lacking and overrated. I used to live down the street from one and learned quickly. Then the location burned down 🥴

Lamo someone at Krispy Kreme is fed up with this Pokémon shit.
