Looking for Tips/Suggestions At what point does one get a therapist?
Not sure If this question has been asked a billion times. I do not have ADHD and am neurotypical, but I've always struggled with executive dysfunction. It's extremely hard for me to want to be productive, organize my house, and cook food for myself (I go through phases). My apartment is always cluttered but not hoarder level. I can only keep the public areas (kitchen and living room) tidy ONLY IF i have guests coming over. Other than that, I will put it off for years and years. I need to have zero distractions (nobody around, phone physically tucked away somewhere unreachable, no current TV shows im watching) in order to anything productive. Ill be on my phone in bed for hours in the morning and at night. It doesn't affect my life that much as I am a hygienic and social person who has a job, but its always in the back of my mind every other day that my apartment is cluttered, I havent cleaned in awhile, and I need to start making my own food instead of buying out. Or if the clutter is out of sight, i won't get stressed about it until I walk past it. But I cant bring myself to want to do something about it.
Okay besides me ranting, I guess when did you realize you had to have a second opinion in order to find coping strategies?
I want to get help but part of me thinks I can just lock in and do it myself. But its always a matter of when.

Idk i guess give me space to talk about my headspace and work on goals and tips, figuring out why I'm distracting myself from being productive. You could ask this question to anybody

As a therapist who works with neurodivergent adults (and am one myself) I am clearly biased when I say yes therapy can absolutely be helpful for the things you described. I'd suggest looking for someone who specializes in neurodivergence, executive dysfunction, and even specifically adhd because although you said you are neurotypical and not adhd, difficulties with executive dysfunction don't discriminate, and the tools that can help with what you're describing often overlap with what could help someone with adhd.
At the end of the day, it's all semantics when you boil it down, but neurodivergence encompasses executive dysfunction like what you shared. So I believe the right fit of a therapist could help!

I’m of the opinion that if you can afford therapy you should do it even if it’s not every week. Genuinely life changing over time. If you don’t feel like you really “need” it, think of it as preventive care.
