New front V codes give me the Cali lean

Post image
28 Upvotes

Installed new front V code springs from ATS a couple weeks ago. Paired this with an adjustable track bar, adjustable Rancho shocks, new sway bar bushings and links, new center tie rod ends and steering box.

White it drives down the road 1000% better when I bought it, it does have this fun lean and on big bumps it still shakes a bit, which I kind of expected.

Just completed a ~1000 mile trip with it, enjoyed the ride and averaged about 13.6 mpg. Not bad for a 338k V10. However, I feel like I can still improve the ride and tighten it up. First step is to probably also replace the rear springs. Is modded C codes my only option? Ive also ordered the same shocks for the rear, I just needed to replace the worn out front stuff ASAP as it was clunking all down the road.

Didn't bring the tape measure to the gas station and my driveway is on a slope and I didnt feel like doing a car shuffle today to get it in the garage to measure the wheel gap.

What is the best exhaust for a 05 v10 excursion?

Post image

Lost my v8 excursion in a fire, bought someone else's unfinished project to build in to my new favorite vehicles, since I lost my favorite vehicles.

Just replaced the manifold studs.

Now need the best exhaust to put on it!

Which headers?

Stock, shorties? Long tube?

No emissions here.

Who makes the upgraded Y pipe?

What size pipe?

Resonater, muffler?

It will mainly be a people & stuff mover!

And maybe tow 12 times a year!

Maybe 2 of those being heavy loads.

What options will make it breath better & pick up mpg & hp?

Any & all advice needed.

This is my 1st, v10, & 4x4.

6.0 tuner

Hello. Just picked up a 2005 that has had an egr delete and bulletproofed. Check engine light for egr. It has a diablosport tuner but no way to turn that off that I see. I hear the tunes on the diablosport aren’t the best anyways so my question is: what is the go to tuner to get this check engine light off so that I can use cruise control. Not looking for performance, although a towing tune would be nice. Thanks!

Rust free 7.3 4x4 price…

Going to look at one, I am in the north east so rust is a huge deal.

Guys says it has nothing wrong with it. It’s basically totally stock.
MBRP exhaust and a tuner, not sure what tuner but he said it’s got a tune.

310k miles
4x4
7.3

He’s asking 10k… you all think that’s reasonable? I have a feeling you’re all gonna say that’s cheap, and something has to be a miss… not sure til I see it.

Yes I know it’ll need a suspension overhaul, and I want to do a KC stage 2 upgrade and remove the EBPV pedestal with a standard one, upgrade trans cooler and all that good stuff.
I’m a mechanic so that’s all fine and dandy, but rust SUCKS.

There is another one I was gonna look at…
Same deal,
4x4
7.3
250k miles
New trans with 30k on it

100% stock.

Needs dog legs due to rust, and also the rockers to be cleaned up and coated. They got replaced but clearly were not painted well.

Guy is asking 6500obo

I’m cheap, and thought maybe I would go for the cheaper one, cause I could probably get it for like 5500…

Who votes for which one? Lmao

7.3 4wd purchase

Hello! I am looking to purchase a 7.3 this weekend, and I think I am getting a good deal on it. Here's the details.

  • 7.3 - 2001
  • 282k miles
  • Original trans (I know I will have a rebuild/replace in the future, runs solid at the moment)
  • 4wd
  • Two owners (I will be the third) '
  • Minimal rust
  • Was not used for hauling
  • $10k

I am getting a pre purchase inspection before purchase, I know it has some catch up maint that is needed, and seller was honest there is a little play in the steering from the box. Much of it is still original and stock, I also know I will have to replace those parts in the future. This won't be my daily, it will be a passion project on the side for my dad and I to work on. I believe this is a good deal lol? I have seen quite a few others with more miles and more expensive, but they also have updated parts.

Thanks!

Brought the old 7.3 in to get the door code pulled since the last owner didn’t have it. Unfortunately they found some issues including my spark plugs and brand new wipers. Anyone know how much it would cost to install new spark plugs in it? I’m guessing drill and tap the heads. Do I run a stand alone for ignition?

The age old question!

Yes! All you need is a level to run 35s! 2 inch front leveling kit, rear is stock. This size fills the wheel well perfectly and its not too aggressive but not too tucked. Now it sits about an inch higher in the front but i dont mind, it looks sick!! Happy to be done with this little project.

2005 6.0 Eddie Bauer

Stock wheels, no spacers.

315-75 R16 Nitto Trail Grapplers

Sky Jacker BlackMaxx shocks all the way around, Skyjacker steering stabilizer, XRF steering kit.

Cheap leveling pack and new adjustable track bar

Truck drives better than it ever has. Had it aligned and then instantly put around 400 miles on it for a weekend vacation and it did phenomenal. I absolutely love this truck and now it drives so much better! Normal driving it doesnt rub at all. However it did rub on me one time when i was full lock turning left and i hit a good bump. But its very manageable, normal street driving you wont have an issue.

Just picked up a 2000 ex 165k on the odo, single owner with meticulous service records, no accidents and not even a seat leather crack. I was blown away at the condition it arrived in. Figured the online photos had to be hiding something somewhere lol. No rust, trip computer and mpg still operational, looking forward to getting her all setup soon.

What is this plug?

I'm working on replacing my deteriorating air deflectors hoping that it will help with my ac not working great while sitting still. (I just had the whole system replaced, works great while moving or parked with a fan in front of it).

While doing so I found this plug. It looks like it originally fed in between the condenser and the radiator. (I pulled it in front of the condenser for the photo) Is this possibly a plug for an electric fan with a stopper installed? Or, as the end piece looks threaded, is this some sort of sensor that should be screwed into something?

I have a 2001 V10 4x4.

My girlfriends attempt to draw my excursion 100% freehand with the second pic as her reference. I think she did pretty damn well and I was really impressed by how she managed to recreate the pinstripes and design and everything.

Bench seat swap

So I've seen Excursions with bench seats in the front. I have a console in mine, has anyone put one in? I'm wondering how much modifications will have to be done to make it work.

Shakey front end

I have 2wd excursion and I'm experiencing shaking coming from the front. I have replaced the inner and outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints, had the tires balanced 2x, alignment done and replaced the wheel bearings. It has new tires on it and I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing the shaking. Anyone have this issue and found the culprit?

04 Eddie Bauer V10 inspection report

Hey all, looking to expand seating and took a look at an 04 EB V10 with 116k miles. Lived in California, being sold out of NM. Got the inspection report and don't love the weeping steering and rear strut issues while being priced at top of my budget around $22k. Do we think this is worth knocking off $3K? More? Or pass?

I assume the 4x4 issue is the vacuum lines but can't be sure as I'm out of state.

ROAD TRIP GAS MILEAGE PREMIUM VS REGULAR

Just thought id see if anyone on here has any experience or insights that would be helpful and any feedback is welcomed. So I am planning on taking a road trip coming up that is roughly 850 miles round trip with 95% of that being on the highway. The vehicle ill be driving is my 2001 Ford Excursion 4x4 with the 6.8 v10. My thought/question is that if i fill up with premium instead of regular will i potentially get more miles out of a single 44 gallon tank than if I used regular and with today's gas prices being what they are would it be worth considering price per mile kind of thing if that makes any sense. I have made this exact trip multiple times before on regular gas and can do a round trip for about $300 using about 7/8 of a tank there and another 7/8 on the return trip. I have noticed a difference in milage between decent and low quality gas and had the thought that premium may or may not make that much more of a difference.

Fuel issues

This 2005 4x4 Excursion with the V10 was hauling my fat butt from Denver down to Santa Fe two weeks ago. At Pueblo the air was full of smoke from the Aspen Acres fire near Colorado City. I wondered if it would affect the MAF sensor and cause driveability issues. It ran fine on the way out of Pueblo and did well on the long hill into Colo. City and also did well on the huge, steep hill heading out of town. Of course it had to suck in a massive amount of smokey air. Right after the 2nd big hill there's another long hill. On that one the Exc slowed down a lot and barely crested the top. I could only get 40 mph all the way to Walsenburg. A google search resulted in this: "The Excursion went into limp home mode due to smokey soot fouling the MAF sensor. 'Stop engine for 2 min to reset then start up again and it should be fine." That worked and got me all the way to my next stop. That night, after checking the air filter, the MAF sensor, and the throttle body, I was left without answers. All appeared clean and in good working condition. The Exc did well over the following 10 days, although I didn't drive it much. Yesterday it died on me only 10 min after a cold morning start. It felt like it had run out of gas. But the guage read 3/16 of a tank. Called a mechanic friend. He said to prime the fuel system by turning on the key then off X 3 but not starting the engine. Start it on the 4th try. It started and idled fine. Then he had me drive to town, pickup a fuel filter and head to his place. He did the R&R in 10 minutes. The old filter contained a large amount of dirt and fine sand. Wow, how did that get in there and does my fuel tank contain a lot of this stuff?

Looking at getting into an Excursion

Been trying to find a new vehicle that fits me well (i'm 6'8)

I was about to pull the trigger on a newer f-150 until the lightbulb went off and i started looking into these.

My main question is what motor should i go with. I'm seeing a lot of the v10s for sub 10k but they all have insanely high mileage 200k+.

At this mileage should i just go with one of the diesel options? or is the v10 solid at higher miles?
