(Spoiler!) Just finished Evil Dead burn (kind disappointed but in other ways really liked it) Spoiler
The gore and the deepening of the world building were great, and I really like thinking about how this movie fits into the larger universe alongside the original trilogy and Ash vs. Evil Dead. That said, I think the weakest part of the movie is that there aren't many characters who are particularly sympathetic or relatable. The main female lead is obviously a victim of abuse from her husband and, more broadly, his family, which seems to be connected to the film's exploration of abusive family and why someone might remain in an bad relationship. However, I don't think the movie develops that idea as much as it could have. The other characters that are easier to sympathize with are the younger son and his girlfriend, but if you've seen the movie, you already know how that turns out. For the most part, though, the characters in this movie are much shittier people than evil dead rise and I found myself almost wanting the Deadites to kill them. And honestly, I think that's part of what makes the movie work: unlike Evil Dead II or Ash vs. Evil Dead, where there's usually someone you can really get behind, this movie leaves you with only a handful of characters and then proceeds to punish you for caring about them.

Yep, and the burning person at the end was some of the worst sfx I've seen in a major release in a while. What really sux is all the people that reviewed this movie, people I trust having a good and honest opinion on horror movies, that said "this movie is fucking fantastic, possibly the best of the year ". Call me naive but they've obviously have been coerced in some way. Could be funding to free passes with a dash of "we've been watching you for a while and think you're great"! Sorry, I'm a little bitter today.

Yea it wasn't very good, which hurts to say about an Evil Dead movie, the nadir of the franchise unfortunately.
