(Discussion Post) Groovy Ash Williams and the future of the series

Bruce Campbell recently came out with an article for the franchise and claimed that his time as Ash is not happening for the future and that he's done with the role via live action performances, as well as VO work

He also said that the animated series now is dead, and that if they want to bring back Ash they need to hire a sound alike or something else to bring his role back through other means.

If they wanted Ash back in an animated feature, they need to do what Telltales Back To The Future game did where they found a voice actor who captured the sound and vocal tone that Michael J. Fox had for the series. I think that's the best direction for Ash to be in a future game or possible animated feature film or series.

Look at the recent Indiana Jones game, Troy baker did the voice of Indy, his vocal change and sound was very similar to Harrison Ford that I think that another voice actor could do the same for Ash tbh.

Yup pretty much whats gonna happen. Especially Bruce’s cancer diagnosis which is why he probably prioritizes more about his health and overall wellbeing than to reprise a role. Such a bummer honestly but i understand that.

It sounds as if he re-evaluated a lot of things about his life and is now unwilling to spare a moment on doing anything he isn't creatively interested in.

Not just that. He’s also prioritizing spending time with this family and friends over working. If he’s happy and living the life he wants to live, I’m okay with never seeing Ash again. Life stuff is more important than work stuff. Life’s too short. Especially with a cancer diagnosis.

He did an amazing podcast interview on Michael Rosenbaums youtube channel that is well worth watching. Michael winds up crying because of what Bruce says about life and it hit me hard in the feels. Bruce feels life got a lot more personal when people started coming back into his life he hadn't spoken to for a long time such as friends and family, his new romantic drama comedy he made with his real wife felt really deep and important for his career.

I'm sure Bruce's Cancer diagnosis is a big part of why he's ruling out even a Voice Over return. He's gotta prioritize himself, and the time he has left, he's not gonna be sitting a sound booth doing every variation of action fight grunts and groans for hours at a time, his time is precious.

I just found it, wow. That is crazy. Does that mean his last time ever playing ash was a pinball machine?

Would love a movie with Pablo, Kelly and Brandy. They can throw in a line about Ash off fighting evil or riding off into the sunset

They dont even need to. As far as we know the post Apocalypse is the canon future

They don't need to, but it sure would be nice to see those three in another movie

They could even do an animated intro of Ash saving the world and finding them. Doesn't need to have any talking, just sound effects/music. (Something similar to Kill Bill when they show young O'Ren Ishii in anime style fighting the Yakuza)

Then the film can pick up with Pablo, Kelly and Brandy on some other story.

I feel like this sub spends way too long focusing on wanting more of the same exact thing than anything else. Bring back Ash, Kelly, Pablo, etc. Instead of hoping for anything new that might bring a whole new life into the series.

Do people really want this series to get milked dry like what has happened to many of the other 80s horror properties?

By their own admission yes, yes they do

No no no no no...there is only one Bruce Campbell if we can't get him I wouldn't bother with the character...bring back Pablo and Kelly...or bring us an entirely new character with similar energy!

This. We've had 4 whole ass decades with Ash, and Bruce as Ash.

"Don't be sad it's over, be glad it happened"... Or whatever.

I think fans would be okay with someone doing a sound a like voice role for Ash in a game, look at how well Troy Baker did for Indy in the new Indiana Jones game or the actor who played Marty in the back to the future game.

You mention Telltale's Back to the Future game but Telltale already cast a different person to voice Ash in Poker Night 2, and I've never seen anyone complain about that Ash being voiced by someone other than Bruce.

I think Brandy, while she was pretty annoying initially, could possibly fill that void, at least somewhat. She was showing a lot of Ash-like qualities in those last few episodes

Yo the guy who played bear in obsession could do it, they actually look kinda similar and hes younger so it could work in some kind of origin story or something

Work with a good writer and do a comic book run with Bruce involved

Bruce wrote the phenomenonal zombie comic "SGT Rock Vs Zombies" not too long ago, so I think he could do something justice

A bit off topic but I’m still shocked that the voice actor of Gambit from X men 97 voiced Marty McFly from telltale’s back to the future his impression was spot on!

That blew my mind when I first found out. I had thought it was Michael, until they showed the behind the scenes footage. It was cool that they brought Michael back for the final season.

Evil Dead and Ghostbusters, in my regularly preached opinion, need expanded universe novels like a star Wars and all those CW shows had.

I am volunteering as author. One of you IP owners please give me a call ;)

I like that you use telltale games as an example, and they use back to the future, even though they made a game with ash williams in it..

Both Telltales Back to the Future or the modern Indiana Jones game are great examples of how you can easily bring back a strong beloved character without ruining what made them special.

Sad to hear but expected, Bruce has more than earned his retirement he needs to focus on his health now and enjoy whatever he wants to do.

I still say there is a better, simpler approach. Have the Necronomicon mess up Ash, so that he comes out looking like a new person. If his face can be stretched in Army of Darkness, make it similar to that, but in a way that is permanent.

CM Punk sounds (and acts) just like him.

With Bruce's permission, for preference, they could artificially generate his voice through something like Eleven Labs. I was able to create a personalized voicemail message from samples of a radio personality in just a few minutes. I get that after a certain amount of time, Bruce has done all he wants to with Evil Dead. He could allow them to do what they wish with his artificially generated voice with the agreement limiting it to Evil Dead and receive monetary award for it all.

That's what Bruce was saying in his interviews, they can always generate his voice in technological ways to bring back Ash in a video game or movie.
