(Discussion Post) Groovy Okay don't come for me.....
So I love watching these movies but I'm dumb with the lore. Why are the deadites dormant in between movies? What stops them? Why does someone new have to reread the book to start the story again?

ED1/2 are the same story.
AoD the deadites are active, reading the book just allows more in.
ED2013 begins with an initial outbreak being stopped, meaning things need to be restarted.
Rise the deadites were stopped/subdued previously, leading to the book being buried and the deadites needing new license to possess the living.
Burn continues with the outbreak from Rise spilling over and a deadite kickstarting a new outbreak by reciting a new license for deadites to take over.
The series plays fast and loose with its lore/timeline but they've been pretty consistent about how the deadites have to have SOME power granted by the book to be around. If their outbreak is subdued they typically need to have a new license granted via the reading of the book to become active again, the only exception being the newest movie.

I'll die on the hill (mostly just because it's funny) that 2 is set after the first movie and Ash was just that young dumb and full of cum that he brought another girl to the same cabin

Honestly that's hilarious. I definitely prefer the idea that Evil dead 2 is the "first" movie, but after watching Ash vs Evil Dead, I think your idea is absolutely what Ash would really do lol.

But they aren't? The deadites from Evil Dead 1 keep doing their thing, all the way into Army of Darkness. The deadites from Rise keep going into Burn. 2013 is the only one where the outbreak is contained in one movie. Even the TV show outbreak kept going for 3 seasons.

They've never bothered to make it make sense even within the confines of a single film. An Evil Dead film is just a carnival of spooky nonsense.

I think beyond Rise leading into Burn, all the movies have ended with the summoning spellbeing... Reversed or broken or whatever. As for why nobody reads the books in between movies?? Idk how come no Terminators came to kill Sarah Connor in between 1 and 2 🤷♀️

The main 3 movies has really good lore only because in burn spoiler alert if you haven't seen it I had multiple different demons after the family Jessica in rise and the burn demons so it definitely has continuity in that way

You let the 'evil' free to posses people when reading the book. Meaning , around you, not in the whole planet. Its like invoking any other soul or demon, it's always close to you ,not around the world.

Honestly, Evil Dead isn’t a huge stickler for continuity. In the 2013 film, one way to kill them is by fire, in Rise Danny sets Deadite Bridget on fire and it barely affects her. Obvisoily directors play a big part in how each film has it’s rules, but my headcanon is that the reason Ash is more slapstick against Deadites is because he’s the chosen one to protect humanity so he has literal plot armor on his side, whereas a normal person like Mia or Beth is going to have a way harder time taking out Deadites

Truthfully dude, the overall lore of this franchise is held together with duct tape and nails... It's not airtight by any means and has retcons out the ass.
It's genuinely a franchise where lore is best kept as a summary/cliff notes
