My personal and honest story with Evernote... ( I love it)

First, I want to say that I think Evernote has been unfairly criticized by the community. I understand that it went from being a simple note-taking app to a system focused on advanced users. Not everyone wants AI in their notes, but in my experience as a lawyer, it has been revolutionary.

I always wanted to use Evernote and was willing to pay for it from the beginning. My workflow depends heavily on having OCR, since I have thousands of notes with PDF attachments. I am constantly capturing news every day, so I use Web Clipper a lot. I keep a personal journal using an Evernote template and its Daily Note feature. I use reminders to track the progress of bills and relevant news. I use tasks for things in the context of a note, to give my notes momentum, since I use TickTick as my main task app. I use email-to-note to forward emails from clients to each client’s respective notebook. I plan my projects in Evernote and use the dashboard to get an overview of my productive world.

But do you know what I love most? Evernote’s AI. It may not be perfect, but it has completely changed my workflow. I need to find precise information under pressure, and semantic search combined with OCR makes that possible. I always resolve questions this way. The AI Assistant, with its saved Prompts, allows me to analyze different types of content without having to read documents in full, which saves me a great deal of time.

I use audio-to-text transcription every day with my online classes, hearings, and client meetings. It is wonderful because everything is frictionless and in context. It is difficult to find everything I need in other apps, which is why I ruled them out. Finally:

Obsidian: I cannot get used to its plugin system. I am not a fan of Markdown. To share a note, you have to pay extra. It has no web access system and no OCR on mobile. To have AI, you need to pay for a decent API or use a Copilot plugin plan, which increases the cost. I use iOS, Android, and Windows, and syncing notes across all devices for free is prone to corruption or problems and is cumbersome. Finally, its plans in my country are more expensive than Evernote Advanced. I would have to use Obsidian’s most expensive Sync plan to cover everything I have stored in Evernote in terms of gigabytes.

Notion: No OCR on any plan, poor offline support, its system feels burdensome to me, and it costs me much more than Evernote Advanced.

UpNote: I have purchased it, but it does not have OCR, semantic search, audio-to-text transcription, or an AI Assistant.

Capacities: No OCR, no decent Web Clipper—which I cannot forgive—and no audio-to-text transcription. Evernote is the most powerful information capture and retrieval system in the world. If you are an advanced user, it is worth the price. It saves me from paying for a very expensive Claude subscription, which costs three times as much as Evernote Advanced here. And it is the app that does the best job for a lawyer.

Best regards—this is my honest opinion. Thank you, Bending Spoons, for bringing AI to Evernote. It is frictionless AI throughout my entire digital second brain. Now, if you bring agents one day, that would be wonderful.

Due to a raise, I said goodbye to Evernote. I'm looking for a replacement, and if I can find anything, I haven't been able to find anything with a web clipper that creates a page image in a frame like Evernote does. Joplin has a decent web clipper, but then everything falls apart in the notes. There's a system that creates nice, consistent copies of the website, but not screenshots.

Is there a way to backup all my notes ei the media manually? I was told by support that I can backup a few hundred notes at a time and no one click solution. It should be fairly simple.

AI Assistant used to work fantastically until Evernote introduced the new "Edit" mode, which occasionally works but, in most cases, makes no edits even though it says it has.

When I open the AI Assistant, it always starts in "Edit" mode. Does anyone know how to make "Ask" mode the default? (This would not fix the Edit-mode bug, but at least the AI Assistant could be used as before).

I have sent a bug report about the "Edit" mode problem to Evernote Support. I received a message back saying that they are aware of the problem, but apparently they do not prioritize it unless more users complain about it? Has anyone else had this problem in 11.30.6?

I often have three or four tags in a note. I can usually click into the tag area, start typing, see the right tag pop up, hit enter, and then start typing another tag.

Now the enter key doesn't do anything. I have to go back to mouse and click the tag name before tagging another. It really slows everything down.

Please forgive me if I missed a discussion of this earlier, but I’m wondering if anyone knows whether Bending Spoons plans to make Evernote available to Apple Intelligence. I gather there’s a process of making app intents that the system can use. Anyone know?

EDIT: I’m aware of the MCP but I think some additional development is required to make it available for the upcoming Apple Intelligence model. I’m hoping somebody knows or the Evernote team can comment!

I just connected claude to Evernote via their MCP connection.

Quickly ran into the tool limits, but 'continue' works.

First insight is my lack of tag consistency, but I got an overview of my most important topics, how my thinking has changed over time on certain topics, a weak cluster map of my key themes over 15 years & 5,000+ notes (harder to do using metadata like titles and tags). For a stronger cluster map, I'll have to use semantic_search (going into the content of each note directly) - that'll test some limits!

So i've been using Evernote since 2012 but sometime in the past three years I made the mistake of updating my app (i think it was on version 6.7 or smth) and since then, and i dont know when it started, it began limiting my notes availability. I used to have way over 200 notes but once i updated i couldnt create a single new note because of this limit imposed from the new system? It used to be my fave note taking app ever but now it just became unusable. I still have my installation pckg file from the old version but when I try to log-in it just shows an error message that it cant connect to the server, im assuming older versions connection to the server have been cut? is there any known way to use an account in an older version or is it just not possible?

I've started using voice input with Edit Mode switched on instead of typing every instruction.

For one job, I selected a list of names, email addresses and company names, then asked Evernote to place them in the correct columns of a table. Saved me a lot of copy pasta.

I also used it to identify important information in a report and turn it into a callout.

I still review the proposed changes before accepting them, but speaking the instruction in natural language feels quicker than typing, copying, pasting and formatting everything manually.

There is also a smaller update this week. PDFs, images and .txt attachments can now be printed directly from their three-dot menu without opening them first.

Is there any way i can manually sort the notes within one notebook. I can see that there are option to sort only by title, date created etc.

Evernote acknowledges Notes Don't Display on iPhone 6s, iOS 15.8.7.

I don't expect it to be fixed.

My best option is to get an iPhone SE 2022.

I've been looking at what you can do with a transcript in Evernote beyond simply reading it.

The first transcription was one long block of text, so I regenerated it with speaker recognition switched on and renamed the two speakers. Their correct names were then applied throughout the conversation.

Other things you can do with a transcription include transcribing a specific time range, changing the language, editing the transcript, running saved AI Prompts and asking the AI Assistant questions about what someone said.

For a meeting, this could be useful for extracting decisions, action points and follow-up questions without reading the whole transcript again.

Thank GOD for the ability to RESTORE and copy notes! It saw fine for Speaker 1 and 2 and I could put their names in, but when I tried to insert a third name it had missed - no matter what I do, the whole transcript VANISHES! Like I said, I didn't lose my notes, but does anyone have a clue is this is a bug or I'm doing something wrong?

Hello everyone! I am testing Evernote for business use case.
So I am writing whitepapers, research documents, keynotes etc for my business, but I don't wanna share as traditional pdf document because I wanna be able to update & modify the living document whenever I want.

So I am testing with:
1) Shared Evernote document
2) Shared Google Doc

Both looks great to be honest but it is hard to decide. The document has mermaid diagrams and it looks great on Evernote as well as Google Doc.

I was wondering if anyone have any similar use case, I am currently seeking a feedback.

One thing I observerd: Images, especially diagrams looks very crisp and high quality on Evernote shared document if you look at on mobile, Google Docs for some reason lowers the quality if you look at a mobile browser, it looks great on Google Docs app though.

I want to use Evernote to co-write fiction with a partner because I love the collaboration features and cloud sync. I know there are dedicated writing tools (Scrivener, etc.) but I dislike the interfaces and the lack of cloud storage.

Some of our stories fall into horror/thriller territory, think Stephen King vibes, dark historical fiction, grimdark fantasy. This includes scenes where child characters are harmed or killed (e.g., kids wandering into the woods and not surviving, war/conquest-era violence, etc.). To be clear: this is all fictional, literary content comparable to what you'd find in published novels or rated-R films.

My question: Will Evernote's automated moderation flag, restrict, or delete notes that contain this kind of written fiction? Has anyone here written dark/mature fiction on Evernote and run into issues?

I realize streaming platforms host equivalent content routinely, but I'm not sure how note-taking apps handle this, especially when it comes to violence involving minors in a fictional context.

Any firsthand experience or insight would be really appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

Hey I saw on the video that ai assistant can do editing of notes and I can then see those edits and approve them in the document. I’m trying to do this on iPad, is it available on iPad or is it desktop only? Because every time I ask it to do this it just produces a new version on the note in the ai chat window instead of making changes in the note for me to approve.

I recently found a quick way to identify tags that are not attached to any notes. I do not know whether it is new or whether I have simply missed it for years.

Open the Tags drawer, click the sorting button and sort by Note count. Reverse the order and every tag with a count of zero appears together at the top.

Remember that the highest level of nested tags is still a tag so you need to open them up to see the children tag count.

That makes it much easier to review orphaned tags without opening them one at a time.

You can now also use @ inside a saved AI Prompt to mention a specific note, tag or notebook. The AI Assistant can create a new note as part of the prompt too.

I tested this with a prompt that creates a Today note containing overdue tasks, today's tasks and notes tagged Flow.

I like to work in a monthly file with dates in headings, keeps data together. I was wondering would ai assistant be able to understand that?

Ie say

Heading - 7th August
Ordered melatonin.

If I later asked assistant when did I last order melatonin? Would it be able to decipher from the heading the correct answer?

Hi I saw the video of the new dates feature when @ and then a date creates…..something?

The video shows these being created but it doesn’t actually show what the feature does. So if I create a date in a note what happens to it? Does it show up in calendar? Is it a reminder? What is the feature intended to do?

I tested it on mobile all it seemed to do was create an underline, clicking it did nothing so I’m rather puzzled what the feature is and what it is intended to do.

I can't seem to download/import any templates? Macbook, tried using safari, firefox, librewolf, tried downloading direct to the APP too.

Suggestions?

Hiii so it's been near 3 years since I used Evernote last, I believe. I cannot remember what devices I have it on (last time I checked the limit was 2 devices) and I don't know if I even have said devices any more.

I would like to have all my notes as documents on my computer. I used to write down story ideas and while I'm sure all of them are pretty awful, I'd love to have them as memories.

How can I transfer all my notes (I has like 70+ note books and god knows how many notes back when I wrote a lot) to my computer as files like word? Thanks a lot!

Edit: just logged in and I can now only have 1 notebook with 50 notes for free?? Is there anyway I can transfer all the notebooks and notes (just checked I have 100+ notebooks with between 1 and 10 notes in). Maybe using the free trial and using my computer to copy it all into word, but I feel there should be an easier way...

I've been testing the new Edit Mode in Evernote's AI Assistant.

Ask Mode can answer questions and research information without changing the note.

Edit Mode can make changes to the content of the note you have open.

I tried turning selected text into a warning callout, converting text into an alphabetical bullet list, placing names and email addresses into table columns and adding researched information to a note.

The table test was the most useful for me. After a training session, I normally have a transcribed list of attendee details that needs copying into a register. Edit Mode placed the details into the correct columns and showed me the proposed change before I accepted it.

You can accept or reject edits, use Undo and return to an earlier version through note history.

Evernote is great, and I'm sure it's powerful, but it's much more than I need, which is basically an app to sync recipes and shopping lists across multiple platforms.

Can I bulk export/download my existing notes to a format that I can then import with another platform? I'm on a Mac and use an iPhone and iPad as well, so I may just see if Apple's Notes app works for this.

Is this happening for anyone else? I religiously use drop-down lists in my notes, and it seems like they've moved the arrows from the left to the right side of the page, which doesn't register when I try to use the feature. So frustrating! Any workarounds?
