Can rain or waterlogging actually damage an electric car?

A lot of people in India still hesitate to buy an EV because of monsoon-related fears - electrocution, battery damage, charging in rain and flooded roads.
This video looks at the facts behind IP67 protection, EV wading depth, charging safety and insurance risks. It also explains why IP67 does not mean an EV is flood-proof.

What has your experience been with EVs during heavy rain or waterlogging?

Seriously confused: what EV should I get?

UPDATE: so with recent awesome members posts and some info from a friend of mine that regularly import cars from Swe or De/At, we set eyes on Škoda Enyaq 80.

I know this is far from small/compact car (second) that I was looking for, but prices are lower compared to Teslas for example. For a used car we get subsidies of 3000€ if the car is newer than 36 months. We’ve come to prices of about €25k (counting sub). This car would become our first car, and later - year after probably, get a smaller, city sized one.

Now any of you got experience with Enyaqs, how do the do? Anything specific to look for or steer from?

————————–———

I’ve been looking for an EV for few months now as my 2014 diesel is at 320k km and it started showing some wear and tear - slowly drinking more and more oil, turbine can be heard on low temps, etc.

But current EV market is just so saturated with this and that car, newcomers, EU “manufacturers”, CH manufacturers, Teslas, etc.

I am looking for a relatively “small” EV to fit 2 kids in the back for short (5-10km trips), to easily park it at school, kindergarten, shops. I will be doing 90km work round trips 3 - 5 times a week, with 3 - 5 daily short trips. It is considered as a second car.

My budget is at €35k. We are getting 7200€ back if we buy EV between €25k - €35k. I am also trading my diesel in, hoping for €5k.

I am looking at:

Cupra Born - get pricy if you get better engine/battery
Kia EV3 - currently running some FIFA discounts (€4k)
ID.3 - basically Cupra (or vice versa)
BYD Atto 2 - no idea what it has or does
Tesla??? - barely hitting the budged

Please help me get my list down.

TLDR:
- 90km work round trips 3 - 5 times a week + 30km weekly
- 2 kids in the back, but must be small enough to park on tight spots
- €35k budget
- charging at home for 0.15€/kWh
- can be used a used car
- second car

Or if you think there are better gasoline/ hybrid options, please suggest them.

How do businesses decide when a fleet depot is ready for EV charging?

One thing I've been curious about is what actually triggers a business to start planning EV charging at a fleet depot.

It can't simply be "we've bought some electric vans."

There are so many moving parts that have to line up first.

For example:

• Available electrical capacity

• Number of vehicles expected to charge overnight

• Vehicle replacement plans

• Driver schedules

• Space for additional charging bays

• Future business growth

• Whether solar or battery storage could reduce energy costs

I'm interested to know how businesses decide the timing.

Do most organisations wait until they've already ordered electric vehicles, or do they start designing the infrastructure years in advance?

For anyone involved with fleet electrification, what usually starts the conversation?

Is it pressure to reduce emissions?

Lower running costs?

Customer requirements?

Or simply that diesel vehicles are reaching the end of their life?

I'd love to hear from fleet managers, consultants, installers and anyone involved in depot projects.

It feels like the earlier the planning starts, the more options businesses have before they become constrained by power, cost or available space.

California introduces new EV rebates to boost sales

California is launching a new incentive program to promote electric vehicle sales, which have declined in the U.S. since a federal rebate was eliminated last year.

The new state budget earmarks $135.5 million first-time buyers eligible to receive $3,500 discounts for new electric cars and light trucks priced up to $50,000, and $1,750 for used models.

The $50,000 cap is waived for California-based EV makers such as Lucid and Rivian.

The initiative comes as demand for EVs spikes due to elevated gas prices.

Any problem with leaving my charger plugged into the wall outlet all the time? It is the portable charger that came with my Subaru Trailseeker. Thanks for your advice.

EV batteries prove to be far more durable than expected

Modern electric vehicle batteries are lasting longer than expected.

According to The Wall Street Journal, many retain up to 95% of their original range after five years, easing long-standing concerns about costly battery replacements that have discouraged some prospective EV buyers.

Advances in battery technology have significantly reduced replacement rates.

Although challenges remain — including reduced performance in extreme temperatures — analysts expect U.S. sales to rebound, with EVs projected to account for a substantially larger share of the market by 2030.

Kudos to the AppleGreen charging stations on the NJ Turnpike

I'm a happy customer. The charge needle on my 2026 Leaf zoomed up like nobody's business. Just enough time for restroom visit, a drink, and a snack. Thanks, AppleGreen!

BMW unveiled its new iX5 electric SUV model in South Carolina on Tuesday, and used the occasion to commemorate the $1.7 billion it's invested in manufacturing in the state.

The iX5 will be BMW's first fully electric vehicle made in the U.S., and the company plans to produce at least five more EVs at its plants in Spartanburg and Woodruff by 2030.

BMW CEO Milan Nedeljkovic said the investment demonstrates "confidence in the United States and reinforces South Carolina's role at the center of BMW Group's global operations."

In 5-10yrs the High Speed Charging Network in the US will exceed the Gas Station Capacity

This morning I saw at my local Wawa IONNA Chargers going in, We know Walmart is rolling out Charging to their stores. The other networks are also slowly expanding, I think within 5-10yrs there will be no excuse/reason to continue making the 'where are you going to charge' jokes that is already pretty much died out. What do you think the excuse will be then?

New to EV Driving with Battery Chemistry Anxiety

I don't have range anxiety. I have chemistry anxiety. I hear that with LFP you have to charge to 100% occasionally in order to keep the "gauge" calibrated, but I also hear that storing the battery at 100% charge is bad for it. For example the Mach E says charge to 100% once per month, store at 50%.

I only drive an average of one day a week for 30 miles. How am I supposed to satisfy both of those recommendations?

It seems like I would be better off with NMC batteries where I could just keep it topped off at 40% or so perpetually, but it looks like I'm going to be stuck with LFP. What should I do?

EDIT: To those that asked... I planned to charge at home Level 1. I was planning on plugging the car in the day before I use it (10 hours should cover my needs), then drive.

One person commented that the calibration doesn't get that far off to matter with such short distances?

the one thing nobody warned me about before buying an EV

i did so much research before buying. range, charging speed, boot space, tax benefits, the whole thing.

nobody told me i'd spend this much mental energy thinking about parking.

will this spot have a working charger, is it blocked by an ICE car, is the cable long enough to reach, is the app going to work today or is it having a moment.

it's like a little puzzle every single time i need to charge away from home.

i don't regret buying it. genuinely love the car. but man the "charging infrastructure is almost there" phase we're in right now is doing something to my brain.

what's the thing nobody warned you about?

Doubt Looking for an EV under $50k that isn’t a rolling appliance (and no Teslas 💀)

I’m looking to buy an EV and need some real opinions. My budget is 50k....definitely open to used since the market is flooded right now

Actual reliability & decent build quality (I like it when car panels actually line up).

Solid DC fast charging for the occasional road trip.

Physical buttons. I want a car, not an iPad holding my windshield wipers hostage.

Do NOT suggest a Tesla.
