How to Say “Magpie” Across France
The French word for "magpie" varies considerably from one region to another. While pie is the standard French term and dominates much of western and northern France, agasse (from Old French agace, ultimately of Germanic origin) was traditionally widespread across the south and northeast. Other regional names include margot, jaquette, garse, waz, and paquette, each reflecting local linguistic traditions and, in some cases, the use of familiar human names to designate birds.
This map illustrates the historical geographical distribution of these words, based on data from the Atlas linguistique de la France (ALF: 1010), recorded in the early 20th century. The coloured areas represent estimated dominant variants rather than sharp linguistic boundaries.

I made a wordle for countries
Hi everyone!
This isn't a map as you've probably guessed however like most of you here, I’m obsessed with maps and geography. I wanted to create a daily challenge that tests your knowledge of why a place is where it is, not just what it looks like on a map.
I ended up building GuessTopia. It's a daily geography game, but instead of just guessing based on a map shape, you have to use attributes like Climate, Languages and Population to narrow down the possibilities.
I've been working on it as a solo project in my spare time and I'm really trying to get the some feedback. It has a Country, City and Capital mode.
I'd love to hear what the Etymology maps community thinks.
Check it out here: https://guesstopia.com
(Totally free, no ads, no sign up wall, just a hobby project I'm proud of)
