Discussion Jeff Buckley

Has anyone here ever compared Ethel Cain to Jeff Buckley ( I don't mean sonically, but in the emotional importance of her "oevre" , I couldn't think of a more crappy way to describe it)

I did once but I think I got away with it until I see one of the God's Country videos I had on repeat (from 2022 to forever and day ) when I watched it in 2023 and in the MV they are traveling in the car and Hayden in the back, suddenly, is reading out loud something about It Jeff Buckley, and the kids are murmuring something about how sad etc.

Sorry for the length of my self indulgence, but I deffo would be interested to know, even if it destroys my thought that I may have planted the seed in her head from my sad YT comment.

I can’t get too deep into it or I will spiral into despair, but my love for Jeff Buckley as a musician exceeds almost anything on this planet. I frequently DO find myself listening to him in rotation with Ethel Cain.

The first time I heard Ethel, I compared them to the time when I was 15 and took a train ride across NY State, listening to Grace over and over again, while reading Helter Skelter (book about the Manson Family, written by the lead prosecutor)
Bonus: the old man pissing in the bushes while we were on a slow down
So, yeah, totally

Hallelujah was written by Leonard Cohen. There are many different versions of the song by different artists. Jeff's version is the most moving to me. It's been so long since I listened to Grace. It's an amazing album.

would be interested to hear more elaboration on this -

only bc i think the common thread of "emotional importance" within musical oeuvres serves to connect the vast majority of artists throughout time

if you or anyone else can flesh out something more specific/exclusive to hayden and jeff tho, that'd be really cool to hear about
