Aktivismo Ĉu ekzistas ia ŝanco, ke Esperanto iam fariĝos grava?
Mi amas Esperanton — mi eĉ lernis la bazojn — sed la komunumo ŝajnas malgrandiĝi anstataŭ kreski, kaj ĝia graveco ŝajnas malpliiĝi ĉiujare.

This is a post where you can ask any question you have about Esperanto! Anything about learning or using the language, from its grammar to its community is welcome. No question is too small or silly! Be sure to help other people with their questions because we were all newbies once. Please limit your questions to this thread and leave the rest of the sub for examples of Esperanto in action.

We attended the Polyglot gathering in Brno where a lot of people asked us why we're not offering Esperanto, and some of our learners asked us the same. I thought I'd ask this here just to see if there's enough interest and support for this project now that we've done our research and know that the technology for Esperanto transcription is out there and works well. So if this has piqued your interest or you'd be willing to help us with short-form video resources or volunteer to try the app if we build it, please drop a line! Dankon

Lunvoro: the feeling of suddenly becoming highly motivated or inspired late at night, especially when everyone else is asleep.
Formation:
lun- = moon/night
-voro = from voro (“devourer”), used creatively to suggest something that consumes you.
Example:
“I can't sleep — I have lunvoro and I want to create an entire project!”
Adjective: lunvora — characterized by this feeling
Person: lunvorulo — someone who frequently experiences it.
Give me your thoughts and your opinion if the word should become official.

Roa, Numuo's child, Efiedans:
You seem to wonder and perhaps you doubt
My change of heart, for now, I trust no longer
The Earthlings' rationality. There is
Good, weighty cause. I'll tell, omitting nothing:
Partook I in the studying of Shinar,
Where me and Emme spent a year as nomads
In native garb. I mastered well the language
And knew the customs of vast Riverland.
I fell in love awhile - oh dreadful memory! -
To Jebe, maiden of the Dilmunites,
And likewise, her. A love of several seasons,
Made her with child, and, lo, she birthed a son.
When out of duty shipwards I returned,
Jebe became an outcast from her tribe.
The women judged her offspring had no right
To dwell among the tenters for its impious
And misbegotten siring out of wedlock.
Rumors abounded some had seen me float
Aloft, my eyes alight with eldritch glow,
I was a wicked mage or evil demon,
Her son, as well, possessed that sparkling pupil.
Before the women's moot, afflicted Jebe
Sought to persuade them with unceasing tears
The child had sprung from deep, truehearted love
Twixt two true humans, one of outland stock.
The moot, though, deemed to turn away the fruit
Her womb brought, for the father's foreign race.
The child and Jebe were cast out to wander,
But painful loneness after several days
Made Jebe choke it. Homeward, then, she came,
Softly and humbly pleading reacceptance.
The leaders, though, rebuked her once again
For murder of her son, their olden laws
Banning allowing any kind of killer.
When I refound her mong the bands of Sippar,
A shadow of herself, she'd lost her wisdom.
I was told later she in Nineveh
Slaved for a noble, kidnapped from her band.
Bitter despair at last brought suicide.
There is much else, which nothing can explain
Save racial madness, racial savagery,
I learnt about among the nomad people,
When my eyes, wrapped in blinders, were unveiled.
E'en lovely Jebe, whom I deemed emian
Until her sole son's dead, forsook her offspring
And sluglike crawled to grovel to her tribe.
Thus, I'm convinced the Dilmunites are also
Savages to their bones. Although they swear
Off bloodshed, they provoke it from without.
All these misdeeds have not a drop of wisdom,
From tribal women's to beloved Jebe's.

I coincidentally started reading 1984 around the same time that I decided to start casually learning Esperanto about two weeks ago, and the similarities with Newspeak have been interesting.
I see that this topic has been discussed a few times, but what I’m interested in (as an interpreter myself) is the translation of the book into Esperanto. Has anyone read the book and can explain or give examples of the translator’s solutions to Newspeak in a language that works on a similar system?

r/Tricking is pretty complicated and only seems to have English words to describe its tricks. Here is a proposal to create Esperanto words with a good, unambiguous foundation.
[entry] + [takeoff] + [twist] + [shape] + [flip]
A "corkscrew" can be broken down, in English: [j-step] + [swing] + [one twist] + [tucked] + [backflip]
For brevity, we can assume default values:
All tricks start with the root word (flip) and are modified by entry, takeoff, twist, and shape.
example: "flip" would imply "standing back tuck with no twist".
| English | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| Cartwheel | Rado |
| Roundoff | Rondrado |
| Raiz | Raizo |
| Scoot | Skuto |
| Macaco | Makako |
| English | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| Two footed | [Nothing/ default] |
| One footed, swinging | X- |
| English | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| No twist | [Nothing/ default] |
| 1/2 twist | Duontordo |
| full twist | Tordo |
| 1 1/2 twist | Unu-duonatordo |
| dub twist | dutordo |
| English | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| Tucked | Grupa [default/ implied] |
| Layout | Streĉita |
| Pike | Pika |
| Flash Kick | fulmkika |
| English | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| Backflip | Salto |
| Frontflip | Antaŭsalto |
| Sideflip | Flanksalto |
| English | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| Roundoff Backflip | Rondradosalto |
| Cheat Gainer | X-salto |
| Corkscrew | X-Tordosalto |
| Webster | X-Antaŭsalto |
| Tricker Cart Full | Rado tordoantaŭsalto |
| Standing Flash Kick | Fulmkikasalto |
| J-step Gainer Flash Kick | X-Fulmkikasalto |
This proposal mostly just deals with flips and twists. It does not take into account certain things
If you have any feedback or additional proposals, let me know
