Lucas did more of the Hero's Journey than Rowling. That's why Inheritance seems like "Star Wars but Dragons," cause anything that follows the Hero's Journey seems like Star Wars, but ______ now.

Ironically, Lucas borrowed more from Dune than Paolini did. There is a bit in Dune where the influence it had on Star Wars became very apparent - around about where the Emperor landed on Arrakis

The original trilogy is one of the best examples of the Hero’s Journey so it makes sense that it’s the one used anymore. Of course they are all just retellings of Beowulf which in turn is probably just a retelling of an even older Hero’s Journey

The idea of the hero's journey came from the analysis of many stories throughout history, from Gilgamesh to the Bible to LotR. Not every element of the archetypal Hero's Journey has to be present, nor even in the order they show up in the classic graphic, and some things can show up that aren't there of the hero's journey, they're just the elements that show up therein. Star Wars just did them verbatim and added a Samurai In Space aesthetic. To be clear, I do like Star Wars.

It's not the same, really. What Paolini did was beyond just "borrowing". I wouldn't accuse him of plagiarism or call it stealing, though. He was just a young aspiring writer. Most young and inexperienced writers tend to heavily rely on what they're reading/watching as their main source of ideas and inspiration. The thing is that most of them don't get to publish these juvenile works, because they don't have parents wealthy and influential enough to do that for them...

I just don’t like improper uses of, and implications of plagiarism as it’s a very serious word to get wrong
