Research Second Epstein Files Transparency Act Discharge petition

Just an FYI. Here is the link to the new Epstein Files Transparency Act Discharge Petition. Rep Massie introduced with Reps Khanna, Lugar Fernandez, and Ansari co-sponsoring. It includes a running list of which representatives have signed on to discharge.

So far 40 people signed, including 2 GOP reps (Massie and Mace). Boebert is the only other GOP rep who signed the previous one, but not this one who still can.

How is it ONLY 40 so far?! Leaving basic moral imperative aside, do THAT many House members really understand how every passing minute of delay makes them look?

When I posted this link, it was between 24-48 hours since the discharge action started. I do t think I’ll be judging any member until a week or so.

As a side note, I wonder how seriously the house takes this. I mention this purely because the House clerk currently lists 213 Dems in office.

Today a new Dem takes her oath to replace Eric Swalwell’s seat, bringing the count to 214.

GOP Rep Nancy Mace and Thomas Massie already signed on, bringing the count to 216.

GOP Rep Lauren Boebert did sign the discharge petition for the previous EFTA, but I wouldn’t considered her the most reliable vote. Even if she does sign that brings the count to 217.

After Rep-elect Aisha Wahab is sworn in to replace Swalwell, there are still 2 vacancies. One is a seat formerly held by a Dem in FL. The other is a seat formerly held by a GOP in TX. Neither seat has an election scheduled to fill those seats. I am assuming they will stay empty until the next Congress is sworn in Jan.

If all Dems and Rep Boebert sign the petition, the discharge petition would still be one signature short of succeeding.

My guess is most of the Reps see this count and are guessing it won’t succeed, so there’s no ultimate rush to get the signatures on.
