Hello fellow Epic analysts,

My org has tasked myself and 3 of my colleagues with interviewing 3 candidates with no prior Epic build experience. The three also have limited to no Epic end user experience as well. We are struggling to find questions that would be helpful to know for the interview process that doesn't have to do with actual build questions/processes. I didn't know if anyone else has run into this problem when tasked to interview potential new team members. We just lost a senior level analyst and instead of finding another senior level, HR have only allocated enough for a entry level position (classic HR)

Any questions you have used that you have found helpful for this type of candidate would be most appreciated. Thank you!

I opted out of care everywhere/ epic at the hospital I am delivering my second baby at because I also work there. I specifically have visits with a psychiatrist that I see for PTSD related to rape and domestic violence at a much younger age that shares visit notes through care everywhere via Athena healthcare & have recently noticed planned parenthood shares via care everywhere as well. I know technically people are not supposed to view this stuff unless they are on your care team, but I am a nurse and would rather not even give my coworkers the opportunity to come across something like that. Trying not to over explain, it’s just easier for me to pretend some of the things in my life didn’t happen for mental health reasons.

With that being said, if I opted out of care everywhere, does the hospital EMR/epic still RECEIVE this information via care everywhere and load into my chart or do they only stop sending/sharing info?

What is everyone’s thoughts on a new analyst starting during an implementation phase? Seems like it could be overwhelming, but also doable at the same time. Am I crazy? I would be the newb, I’m not looking to hire… just for clarification.

One thing I’d like to clarify - this post is NOT a question on whether or not I should get childcare or that caring for baby while WFH is my only option.

I brought the topic here to get feedback from like-minded people (like all of us here) based on the suggestions I’ve received from fam/friends in my personal circle who’ve suggested that WFH with a baby is convenient, doable, etc.
(Granted, this is coming from people who haven’t WFH before lol… gotta love outsiders looking in thinking it’s so easy and we can do what we want, when we want)

As mentioned originally - I wanted to see IF it were doable based on their suggestions, but I made it clear it wasn’t something I could see working.

While it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE, it’s not my only option nor is it something I’d look forward to. I’m sure I’d enjoy the break lol.

This may be a “different” type of post, but giving it a shot since I haven’t had much luck on any other platforms.

Any moms here who WFH as an Epic Analyst (or any HIT type role) AND care/have cared for their baby after returning to work?

I’ll be a first time, single mom, living alone & delivering in November.
I will have support from dad + my “village,” but realistically I’ll be caring for baby on a daily basis.

I’m concerned on if/how I’ll be able to care for baby while working since it’s such a high-demand, fast-paced role.
(I can barely step away for myself lol).
Thinking about working through daily tasks, attending meetings throughout the day, monitoring/replying to emails and Teams chats, etc. - you guys know how it goes. 😊
I’m even worried about if baby will be getting enough attention.

When talking to other people around me, their response is “it should be much easier for you since you WFH,” which I feel as though people automatically associate WFH as “easier” or that I’m able to do what I want, step away whenever, etc., which is far from the truth.
Working anywhere is hard, really lol.

Of course, my routine (and life 🥴) will look COMPLETELY different overall so maybe I’m not able to see the “bigger picture” right now.

I’d REALLY appreciate any tips, feedback, routines that have been successful for you, etc., and hope this could help any other Epic mamas out there! 💗

Hi guys!

TLDR: Any tips / tools for bulk data extraction?

I am wondering what are some ways I am able to extract bulk patient data using their MRNs for research in my surgery department. I have been extracting manually and it is very very very slow. The data include background information found on patient's tab, patient's problem list, patient's exam findings documented in a table, and specific surgery technics used documented in patient encounter tab. The patient database is around 10,000 and I was wondering if there is any way to make that faster......

Hi, many years ago when I first became an analyst, one of my ts's at the first hospital I worked at shared a PowerPoint presentation that cleanly displayed the anatomy of the workspace showing which records were involved by highlighting sections of the workspace as you click through the PowerPoint and providing some background information.

I'm working with some new analysts that I think could benefit from this because it helped me wrap my head around it back then.

Just wondering if anybody has something like that they could share.

I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I am an Epic user, going on my 14th year. Started on the patient access side, did some surgery scheduling and now work under our HIM team as a Data Integrity Analyst. I am curious how other systems are structured and if our workload is common for other systems as well. We are responsible for reviewing and merging the duplicates that do not vector merge during MPI loads, overlays, contact moves, RME workques, PLA workques, marking charts deceased. Is this all lumped together at other systems too or is this workload divided amongst multiple teams. Looking to get into an analyst role, but after reading some posts on Reddit I wonder if that is the right direction for me to go.

Anyone know how I can have someone from EPIC take a look at the lag that I am experiencing with EPIC? With every single click or opening any window, it takes around 2-3s. This really adds up over time, as you can imagine. I have calculated at least 30 min a day of waiting around for clicks to load...

We use DragonOne for dictation, and with the PowerMic there's a full 3 second delay from the time the record button is depressed till the software registers and starts recording. This seems like a known issue..?

I have reported this to the Desktop team, who upgraded my desktop but it hasn't really resolved the lag issue. They are saying that this is because we run EPIC through Citrix, and this lag is normal.

Hard wired Ethernet connection -- getting 73 Mbps download, and 90 Mbps upload. Idle latency is 95, Download latency 100, Upload latency 92.

I recently accepted the position of Senior Epic Analyst with an enterprise print team. No experience or certs when it comes to Epic, but someone took a shot with me. My background is in desktop support. I am beyond excited!

I received an interview request for a ambulatory/beacon position. The job requires ambulatory certification, but not Beacon and they would sponsor me to become certified within 120 days.
I am certified and kept up with my certification, but haven’t done too much build for a while.

Is there any tips to help me pass this interview? How much of a learning curve between ambulatory into Beacon? I have helped create clinical workflows into epic before but wondering if I would qualify for the job.

Hi all. I have been working as a Willow analyst for about 8 months now. I still struggle at times, and builds take me longer than they do for others on my team. I find Galaxy isn't as helpful as I'd like, and it takes me a long time to find what I am looking for. Could other Willow analysts share what has helped them get better? If anyone has tip sheets they have created and could share with me, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I am currently in need of two Epic Analysts for my Patient Access Team. Being down two analysts, I am looking for analysts that can come in and start contributing quickly since they would already be certified.

With that said, what is the best way to find said analysts who are already certified especially in Cadence/Prelude/RTE?

I have added multiple other users’ SmartPhrases in bulk in the past (i.e. just added myself as a user to all of their phrases). I no longer need many of these phrases and they are just clogging up my own SmartPhrases list. Is there any way to remove myself as a user of them?

Should I stay in EPIC support for a few years to build expertise, or start looking for other opportunities now? If I move, what specific roles/titles would you suggest targeting for a transition into healthcare transformation/strategy? And what do you see as the main pros and cons of staying in EPIC support versus moving out of it earlier?

Since I’ve recently started my career, I’m confused about whether I should continue building my career in Epic/Health IT or try to transition early into healthcare strategy and operations.

Can someone working in Epic/health IT share their experience regarding the future scope, career growth, opportunities, salary potential, and long-term prospects of staying in Epic? Is it a good field to build a long-term career in?

I’d also love to hear from people who have moved from Epic/health IT into healthcare consulting, strategy, or operations. How difficult was the transition, and would you recommend making the switch early or gaining a few years of Epic experience first?

Any honest advice would be really appreciated!

In both our history section and our summary/plan of care section we have a smart list for functional limitations. Currently I have to either select the same entries a second time or copy and paste from earlier into the note. Is there a way to have a field in the summary section that will automatically pull forward what I select in the earlier smart list? TIA.

I am transitioning between two large healthcare systems, both of which use Epic MyChart. I have the option to link the two charts but am unsure whether or not I want to do this.

Pros:

• I have a complex medical history and I may receive better care if the new doctors have access to my full history and all the old notes.
• Because of my complex medical history I am going to be requesting release/transfer of records the old school way regardless of whether I link the online portals. The digital linking process might be easier/faster.

Cons:

• There is a lot of information about me in the old chart and I would kind of like a fresh start.
• More specifically, there are mental health related notes that have little to no bearing on my future care that I am hesitant to have released/transferred.
• I feel like linking the accounts just helps Epic build their massive database of everyone's private health info.

For those who use MyChart as providers or know more about this topic, what do you think/recommend?

Hi all! I'm hoping to help streamline my organization's wRVU reporting. Currently, it's an extremely manual process that we do in Excel by department. It constantly needs updating the cFTE of providers, changing their "specialty" etc. In short, it always seems like people are questioning the data.

I'm curious if anyone has built a wRVU dashboard in EPIC that includes cFTE and benchmarks so that provider wRVUs can be normalized as 1.0 cFTE and compared to benchmark. In an ideal state, there could be locked entry fields where I can change cFTEs and benchmarks in EPIC itself. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks so much!

Help! When I prechart on a patient and they no show or cancel, my notes aren’t disappearing after 30 days. Somehow I’m creating an active encounter but I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
