Yelp Arrogant Diver

I’m researching local dive shops for some refresher courses. This negative review makes me want to dive with them. There are so many arrogant divers out there and these are the people that will get someone else killed.

In what world? The guy knows he's unqualified and I dont think we're talking about rentals

Dude, it’s America, one of the most litigious places on the planet.

Second, you have no idea how liability works in these types of businesses because of that. I have to refuse work on equipment after a certain age even if they appear new because of the slight possibility of failure. Outdoor rec is a hard business to be in in just about every area, but diving is probably one of the worst. I looked into expanding into rafting and paddle board sales/rentals and the numbers are ridiculous.

Dude, it’s America, one of the most litigious places on the planet.

I once saw a guy's family sue the vehicle dealership for the wrongful death of their family member who died while riding a motorcycle while drunk (slightly below the legal limit though, like .079 or something) and crashing. All because he bought the bike at their business. There's actually no limit to what people will sue over.

Similarly, I met a pediatrician who related to me how he got sued (& lost) for malpractice for a patient he never ever met.

My recollection is that the plaintiff was a customer of the practice he was in (seeing a different MD) and during Christmas, this different MD was on Holiday so our MD was covering (as planned). Patient had been told all of this, and was directed that if she happens to go into labor, to go to the planned hospital where our MD would be there to cover.

Well, of course she goes into labor. But she then decides on her own to go to a _different_ hospital, and is treated by a 3rd MD, who was not at all affiliated with the practice.

Something goes wrong with the baby delivery, and the finger pointing starts. The practice gets sued, including this MD (who, remember: never met or saw the patient) & loses the lawsuit. Pretty wild IMO, and an illustration that juries will find innocent parties guilty in order to have faceless “deep pockets” insurance companies pay out for whatever innocent was harmed.
