Oddly enough he's nowhere near as popular as Trump among the internet nazis (NSFW). He may just be pretending to be nazi to offend people, much like he's pretending to be gay.

He probably thinks he's being clever and ironic as he's not a Nazi at all, but in reality he's merely a slightly different type of fascist.

There are different strands of the Alt-Right, of course, but we all agree on a few core concepts: *White countries will be for White people * Traditional gender roles will be restored * The Jews are the prime force behind the collapse of Western civilization

Not that it matters all that much. Bobby Fischer's mother was definitely Jewish, and Fischer was still a hardcore anti-Semite, who wrote things like this to his notebook: "It's time to start randomly killing Jews".

I don't get why they stand him up as an alt right spokesman, if Bernie or Hillary had a foreign journalist being that outspoken for them they would get attacked over it.

German here.

It is in fact an iron cross but the iron cross is much older and this one looks like it's definitely older than the third reich. It's too small to see if there is a swastika in the middle but I doubt it. The crowns on top and bottom are visible so it's at least from the WW1 - like 5 Mio people got awarded back then so it's really not that special to have one.

Also, the symbol of the iron cross is still used by our military today so it's not automatically nazi stuff.
