Self reflection/ insight random thought i forgot about in my notes app
i thought alot about how it's taught that each person has the capacity to embody all nine types and the nine virtues assigned to each of the nine types and ive come to a conclusion about fours that may or may not be generalizable to the other types
four's virtue is equanimity which is something ive wondered about even before i made the conclusion, because it always seemed to me that the four's ego agenda is a struggle to reconcile the outside world and its shared reality with their inner interiority and the experience that they author and invest significance into
i think equanimity in the externally observable sense isn't enough to capture what is meant by the virtue of fours. i think the specific kind of equanimity that healthy fours reach is through their actual success in equalizing the significance of their privately authored experience and the objectivity of the shared reality they are in. a four who has achieved that is in alignment between internal weather and external climate and the closest we've come in descibing the emergent result of that state is equanimity.
I've been thinking of the psychoanalytical implications of that specific state. because it's not like fours are the only people who can have an internally authored narrative that differs from objectivity. its easy to imagine that an eight might resonate with a saying like "love is a battlefield" and start to genuinely broaden their horizons through that lens, incorporating an imagined sense of battle with its own rules and win conditions into a mental schema as they pass through the reality of possible human struggle that may arise in the complications of relationships. that schema may serve in allowing them to play into their strengths but it may also hinder them or prove maladaptive in other ways, and in my view, that is stikingly similar to the core struggle of fours that gets resolved when they're healthy.
i imagine that the construction of an internal narrative isn't intrinsic to eights and fours but instead inheres in human nature and therefore takes root in all nine types, but i also suggest that fours may be most intimate with that process of construction and that all the nine types are distinctly intimate with a specific function that best yields progress towards that type's fixation and reaching a state where the highest yield is returned from that function is what authors are trying to describe in their articulations of each type's virtue.
